1. 5th Annual Marina del Rey Film Festival Announces New Venue,
Submissions Open
Marina del Rey, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2016
The Marina del Rey Film Festival will take place this summer from August 12-14th at Cinemark
18 Los Angeles at Howard Hughes Center and Beach Dancer Films Marina del Rey. This will mark
as the fifth anniversary of the event, a celebration of independent film and filmmakers from
around the world. Submissions are now being accepted with a deadline of July 15, 2016.
Each year, the festival gains more followers and submissions, which lead Festival Director Jon
Gursha to seek out another venue large enough and prestigious enough to house the event. The
addition of the Cinemark 18 location allows for significantly more live screening and a larger
audience. Gursha said, “Because we keep our submission fee lower than most festivals, and with
the announcement of this new venue, we expect to see a flood of submissions to come in from
all over the world.”
Festival Programmer Peter Greene is very excited about this year’s festival. “Four years ago, we
dipped our toes in the film festival world with the inaugural Marina del Rey Film Festival. Now,
we are poised to have our most successful festival ever with our new partner, the Cinemark film
theater chain, and our valued colleague Sandie West and Beach Dancer Films. We expect a record
breaking number of submissions and look forward to screening some delightful and moving films
at the Cinemark 18.”
The festival accepts films from every genre, on any topic, from every country around the world.
The goal is to promote the spirit of film-making and indie film in Marina del Rey and Los Angeles.
Both features and shorts are welcomed and submissions cost just $25.00.
Gursha said, “We are excited about this year’s event because we believe there is a huge need for
independent festivals on the west side of LA.” Sandie West, co-producer & host at Beach Dancer
Films, agrees. “Along with our Hollywood based partners and the official Venice Media District,
the Marina Del Rey Festival is supported by the community and is uniquely positioned to provide
an excellent conduit for independent filmmakers," West said.
There will be an awards ceremony and other events will take place throughout the three-day
festival. However, details on both are as yet to be determined. Those interested in participating
are encouraged to visit the website for more information and announcements:
