Pakistan Federal Laws Extended to FATA

Periodically, federal laws have been extended to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to complement the criminal and administrative system as defined in the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR). Unlike other parts of Pakistan, FATA is governed primarily by the colonial-era FCR, originally implemented in 1901 and remaining in force to date. By conferring absolute administrative, judicial, electoral and executive powers on the political administration (controlled directly by the federal government), the FCR denies the people of FATA any authentic representative government, due process and the separation of powers necessary to prevent conflict of interest from denying rights or guaranteeing proper implementation of the responsibilities of a fair and accountable government authority.Read less
