Tagungskomplexes befindet sich schon in
der Phase des Innenausbaus. Erst im ver-
gangenen November erläuterte Ekkehard
Streletzki auf einer kurzfristig einbe­
rufenen Pressekonferenz seine Planungen
für weitere 10.000 qm Kongress- und
Messefläche direkt angrenzend an das
bestehende Estrel Convention Center
entlang der Ziegrastraße – und dies zum
großen Erstaunen der anwesenden Presse-
vertreter, die erst einige Monate zuvor
über die Pläne des Estrel Towers auf dem
Areal an der Sonnenallee informiert
wurden. Doch da für den Bau des Estrel
Towers, eines 176 m hohen Hotelturmes
mit 800 Zimmern, eines Bürohauses und
einer weiteren Kongress- & Messehalle
noch einige Genehmigungsverfahren
durchlaufen werden müssen und somit
Baubeginn voraussichtlich 2017 sein wird,
entschied sich Estrel-Besitzer Streletzki
It’s hard to believe that the construc-
tion of our second Convention Centre’s
interior is already underway. It was
just last November that Estrel owner
Ekkehard Streletzki called a last-minute
press conference to reveal to the public
that an additional 10,000-square-metre
conference and convention space on
Ziegrastrasse would be built right next
to the existing Estrel Convention Center.
The announcement came as a surprise
to the reporters in attendance, especially
considering that, just several months prior
to this news, the public was told that con-
struction on the ambitious Estrel Tower on
Sonnenallee would soon commence. How-
ever, some aspects of the plans for the
176-metre-high Estrel Tower – designed to
house 800 hotel rooms, as well as office space
and an additional conference and conven-
tion hall – still required further approval
and initial construction would likely be
postponed until 2017. Instead of putting
the entire project on hold, Mr Streletzki
elected to prioritise the Convention Center’s
expansion in the interim. If all goes as
scheduled, the new center will be completed
by the end of summer, when the existing
and new space to be collectively known
as the Estrel Congress & Messe Center
will debut as one. This incomparable
facility will hold countless possibilities
for hosting future events for our cus-
tomers, without whom all our current
and future projects would never be
possible.

Das Estrel Berlin erweitert seine Veranstaltungs­
flächen um weitere 10.000 qm auf 25.000 qm. Die
Fertigstellung des Anbaus ist für Ende August 2015
geplant. Insgesamt finden dann bei Kongressen, Fach-
tagungen, Spezialmessen und Events 12.000 Veran-
staltungsbesucher im Estrel Congress & Messe Center
Platz.
„Bereits heute sind wir mit über 1.800 Veranstaltungen
und 360.000 Besuchern im Jahr ein fester Bestandteil
der Berliner Kongress- und Messelandschaft. Mit der
Expansion werden wir diese Marktposition erweitern
sowie neue nationale und internationale Veranstal-
tungen nach Berlin holen“, erklärt Ekkehard Streletzki,
Eigentümer des Estrel. „Endlich können wir während
Umbauphasen in unserer bestehenden Convention Hall
eine Parallelveranstaltung in der neuen Halle, die die
gleichen hohen Qualitätsstandards erfüllt und mo-
dernsten Designansprüchen gerecht wird, anbieten.
Mit Eröffnung unseres neuen Kongress- und Messe-
bereiches stellen wir neben dem CityCube multifunk-
tionale Räume für Großkongresse, die durch die
Schließung des ICC weggefallen sind, zur Verfügung.“
Der neue Eventbereich, dessen Herzstück eine
4.600 qm große, freitragende Halle sein wird, verfügt
darüber hinaus über einen Raum mit 1.050 qm,
ein 700 qm großes Foyer sowie weitere Funktions-
und Nebenräume. Mit einer Hallenhöhe von bis zu
11,5 Metern wird dieser über einen direkten Zugang
mit dem 1999 eröffneten Estrel Convention Center
verbunden sein. Die bestehende Convention Hall erhält
ein Facelifting, so dass die 75 Veranstaltungsräume
sich zu einem harmonischen Gesamtbild fügen.
Für die Akquise von nationalen und internationalen
Kongressen sowie für die Konzeption eigener Fach-
messen und Events wurden zusätzliche Vertriebsmit-
arbeiter eingestellt, die sich gemeinsam mit der
15-köpfigen Sales-Mannschaft um aktive Bestands-
kundenbetreuung sowie Neukundenakquisition für
das Estrel Congress & Messe Center kümmern.
NACHHALTIGKEIT UND TECHNIK
Nachhaltigkeit hat bereits seit Jahren im gesamten
Estrel eine hohe Priorität. Um die nach EnEV 2014-
Norm geplante Halle nicht nur energiesparend, son-
dern auch umweltfreundlich zu betreiben, wird eine
Grauwasseranlage zur Versorgung der sanitären
Anlagen verwendet und bis zu 160 Kilowattstunden
Energie mit Hilfe einer auf dem Dach installierten
Photovoltaik-Anlage gewonnen. „Gerade aufgrund
der Dimensionen des Estrel ist ein ökologischer
Umgang mit den Ressourcen der Erde unerlässlich“,
ergänzt Streletzki. Für hybride Veranstaltungen wird
auch in den neuen Räumlichkeiten die Übertragung
von Live-Streams und Videokonferenzen möglich
sein. Zudem wird die neue Convention Hall II an
180 Hängepunkten eine Gesamttraglast von circa
180 Tonnen aufbringen können. Dies entspricht etwa
der Last von 100 Pkws, die unter die Decke gehängt
werden könnten.
DESIGN UND KUNST
Für die Innenarchitektur zeichnet sich das prämierte
Büro brandherm + krumrey interior architecture ver-
antwortlich. Das Konzept legt großen Wert auf eine
individuelle und ansprechende Atmosphäre. Das neue
Foyer – als Schnittstelle zwischen den Gebäudekom-
plexen – erhält elegante Fliesen in dunklen Farbtönen,
überdimensionale formschöne Pendelleuchten, sty-
lische Sitzelemente sowie eine metallische Wandfarbe
und erzeugt damit ein einladendes – fast wohnliches –
Ambiente. Attraktiver Eyecatcher wird die Installation
„The Sum of All Possibilities“ des Londoner Designkol-
lektivs Troika sein. Die von der Decke schwebende
Skulptur aus graulackiertem Holz dreht sich in kreis-
förmigen Bahnen um die eigene Achse und verkörpert
somit den unendlichen Prozess der Metamorphose.
Weiteres einzigartiges Gestaltungsmerkmal sind
große Lichtkästen mit kunstvollen Fotomotiven aus
der direkten Umgebung des Estrel. In der Convention
Hall II ist anstelle einer Betonbodenbeschichtung, wie
sie in den meisten Kongresszentren vorhanden ist, ein
hochwertiges Parkett geplant, das für ein ganz beson-
deres Raumerlebnis sorgen wird.

Germany‘s largest hotel is taking events to a whole
new level. With the addition of a new convention
hall, the Estrel will be able to offer customers
more than twice the amount of event space
currently available at our establishment. After its
scheduled completion by the end of August,
the Estrel Congress & Messe Center will open its
doors to up to 12,000 guests for conferences,
conventions, special exhibitions and events.
”We currently play an integral role in the Berlin
conference and convention landscape, hosting over
1,800 events with upwards of 360,000 guests a
quality and visual aesthetics customers have come
to expect. Additionally, the closure of Berlin‘s Inter-
national Congress Center (ICC Berlin) has generated
a greater need for conference facilities. Much like
the new CityCube, the Estrel‘s upcoming congress
and convention space will help to address this
demand with state-of-the-art multifunctional
rooms for major conferences“. Featuring a central
4,600-square-metre cantilevered hall, the new
Convention Hall II will also include a 1,050-square-
metre event space, a 700-square-metre foyer, an
abundance of rooms for various other uses and a
high ceiling stretching up to 11.5 metres. Further-
more, the new facility will be directly accessible
from the Estrel‘s existing Convention Center.
To assist the 15-person sales team, we‘ve hired
additional staff to help create even more appealing
event concepts and ideally position the Estrel as a
venue for new domestic and international confe-
rences and specialised trade fairs. The increase in
personnel ensures equal focus will be placed on
our existing customer base as well as acquisitions
for the Estrel Congress & Messe Center.
TECHNOLOGY AND
SUSTAINABILITY
The Estrel has always recognised the importance
of sustainability. Built according to 2014 Germany‘s
energy standards (EnEV), the energy-efficient,
environmentally-friendly hall will utilise greywater
for the sanitation systems and supplement energy
usage with up to 160 kilowatts via a rooftop
solar panel system. ”For an establishment the
Estrel‘s size, it is imperative that we use the Earth‘s
resources in the most ecological way possible“,
says Ekkehard Streletzki. Equally impressive are
the technological fixtures in the new centre, which
will offer both live streaming and video conferen-
cing at hybrid events. Convention Hall II will also
feature 180 suspension points with an overall
bearing capacity of circa 180 metric tonnes, akin
to the weight of approximately 100 automobiles.
ART AND DESIGN
The award-winning firm brandherm + krumrey
interior architecture will be responsible for the
space‘s interior design. Cultivating a personal and
appealing atmosphere is at the heart of their con-
cept. As a point of intersection between the two
building complexes, the new foyer will be outfitted
with elegant, dark-coloured tiles, sophisticated
pendant lights, stylish seating options and metal-
lic-hued walls to create an inviting, cosy setting.
”The Sum of All Possibilities“, an installation by
London design collective Troika, will serve as the
space‘s eye-catching centrepiece. Made of grey-
lacquered wood that rotates in a circular orbit
around its own axis, the sculpture – which will be
suspended from the ceiling – symbolises a state of
perpetual metamorphosis. Large illuminated frames
housing artful photographs taken of the Estrel‘s
setting will be another unique design feature.
Unlike most convention centres, Convention Hall II
will feature hardwood floors rather than concrete,
further enhancing the building’s visual impact.

year. This expansion will allow us to bolster our market
position and encourage even more domestic and inter-
national groups to hold their events in Berlin“, says

Convention Hall has reached completion, the existing
one, built in 1999, will undergo renovations to ensure
all 75 event spaces in the new Estrel Congress & Messe
Center are a harmonious whole. ”Once complete, the
new Convention Hall will immediately open its doors to
the public, thereby providing us with an opportunity to
transform the existing facility to match the new one; in
doing so, we can seamlessly switch between venues
while living up to the uncompromising standards of

sener Fachausstellung informierten sich mehr als 1.350 Experten aus Europa, China und den USA bei 120
Ausstellern über die neuesten technischen Entwicklungen im Bereich der Fahrzeuggetriebe.
In December 2014, the Car Training Institute (CTI) held its annual conference for the automotive and
automotive supplier industry at the Estrel Congress & Messe Center. The international symposium and its
affiliated exhibition attracted more than 1,350 guests, including industry experts from Europe, China and
the USA. With some 120 stands, the conference offered guests a look at the latest technological developments
in the field of vehicle transmissions.

Das Motto „Sport“ bestimmte im Oktober 2014 den Gala-Abend der Bundesvereinigung Logistik e.V. im Estrel.
Höhepunkt der exklusiven Veranstaltung mit 2.200 Teilnehmern war die Verleihung des Deutschen Logistik-
Preises. Anschließend feierten die geladenen Gäste bis spät in die Nacht und – gemäß des Gala-Mottos –
wurden gesunde und leichte Speisen von den Köchen des Estrel an Live-Cooking-Stationen zubereitet.
”Sports“ was the name of the game at the German Logistics Association‘s October 2014 gala. 2,200 guests
were in attendance at the exclusive event, whose highlight was the conferral of the German Logistics
Award. The festivities continued late into the evening, well after the ceremony. Guests enjoyed a variety of
light and healthy meal options – a nod to the gala’s theme – prepared at live cooking stations by the
Estrel’s exceptional team of chefs.

THE EQUESTRIAN BALL
More than 500 guests from Berlin, Brandenburg,
Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt donned their finest
evening attire to celebrate the culmination of the
equestrian season at the Estrel‘s 2014 revival of the
time-honoured Equestrian Ball. On 28 November, it‘s
time for horse lovers to once again exchange their
jodhpurs and riding boots for tuxedoes and evening
gowns. Following last year‘s successful performance,
the Jürgen Fetzer Gala Band and DJ B are back with
musical accompaniment for the event. In addition to a
first-class gala buffet and a special guest appearance
by ”Stars in Concert“, the evening will culminate with
a very special performance ”by riders for riders”.

DER REITERBALL
2014 lebte erstmals die Tradition des Reiterballs in
Berlin wieder auf und mehr als 500 festlich geklei-
dete Gäste aus Berlin, Brandenburg, Sachsen und
Sachsen-Anhalt feierten im Estrel den krönenden
Abschluss der Saison. Am 28. November heißt es
nun erneut für alle Pferdeliebhaber Reithose und
-stiefel gegen Abendkleid und Anzug zu tauschen.
Der Ball wird wiederum musikalisch durch die Fetzer-
Gala-Band sowie DJ B begleitet. Neben einem erst-
klassigen Gala-Buffet und einem Gastauftritt von
„Stars in Concert“ wird ein weiterer Höhepunkt eine

IM JULI DREHT SICH IM ESTREL
ALLES UM ABBA
THIS JULY, THE ESTREL IS ALL ABOUT ABBA
ABBA – diese vier Buchstaben wurden in den 70er
Jahren zum Mythos. Die Liste der vielen Hits aufzu-
zählen, die ABBA in den zehn Jahren ihres Bestehens
von 1972 bis 1982 landeten, würde den Umfang dieses
Artikels sprengen. Die Musik der Schweden zieht die
Menschen auch Jahrzehnte nach ihrer Trennung in
ihren Bann. Ein Grund für den langanhaltenden
Erfolg der Gruppe ist, dass sich viele Menschen, die
die Zeiten der Schlaghosen, Fönfrisuren und des
kometenhaften Aufstiegs ABBAs live miterlebt haben,
noch heute gern nostalgisch zurück erinnern. Dieses
Gefühl will die ABBA Story „Thank you for the music“
vom 1. bis 26. Juli im Estrel Berlin absolut originalge-
treu wiedergeben. Die Show bietet somit allen Fans
die Gelegenheit, die größten Hits von ABBA noch ein-
mal live zu erleben – ganz so, als stünden Agnetha,
ABBA. In the Seventies, these four little letters
changed the face of disco forever. Simply listing
ABBA‘s countless hit recordings during their glory
years from 1972 to 1982 would put this article
well over its allotted word count. Even now –
Anni-Frid, Benny und Björn selbst auf der Bühne. Über
zwei Stunden lang wird anhand der unvergessenen
Popklassiker wie „Waterloo“, „SOS“, „Mamma Mia“,
„Dancing Queen“ und „Money Money Money“ die mu-
sikalische Geschichte des erfolgreichen Quartetts er-
zählt, angefangen beim Grand-Prix-Auftritt im Jahr
1974 bis hin zur Auflösung 1982. Die perfekt aufei-
nander eingespielten Darsteller schlüpfen mit beein-
druckender Authentizität in die Rolle der vier Musiker

„Thank you for the music“, the ABBA Story, is all this
and so much more. From 1 to 26 July, the band is back
in full regalia, capturing all of the superstars‘ glitz and
glamour with uncompromising accuracy. Relive the
magic of a bygone era as Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny
and Björn take flight before your very eyes. It‘s a full
two-hour journey packed with unforgettable pop hits
like “Waterloo“, “SOS“, “Mamma Mia“, “Dancing Queen“
and “Money, Money, Money“. Settle in as we accom-
pany the Swedish foursome on a stroll down memory
lane: From their big break at the 1974 Eurovision
Song Contest to their stunning last hurrah in 1982.

Weltweit gibt es wahrscheinlich nur drei Männer,
die einen Umhang tragen können ohne seltsam zu
wirken: Batman, Elvis Presley und „der beste Elvis
seit Elvis“: Grahame Patrick. Nach einer erfolgreichen
Europa-Tour durch 60 Städte ist „Elvis – Das Musical“
vom 12. August bis 6. September endlich wieder in
seiner Heimspielstätte, dem Estrel Berlin, zu sehen.
Hier verkörpert Grahame Patrick, der sein Leben der
Musiklegende gewidmet hat und ein exzellenter und
charismatischer Sänger ist, den King. Wenn der Kanadier
mit irischen Wurzeln das Publikum mit seinem Hüft-
schwung zum Kreischen und Applaudieren bringt so-
wie mit leicht hochgezogenem Mundwinkel „Jailhouse
Rock“, „Love Me Tender“ oder „In the Ghetto“ performt,
wird klar, warum ihn Elvis‘ Weggefährten als „besten
Elvis seit Elvis“ bezeichnen. Das mitreißende Musical
bietet eine Kombination aus Musik, Tanz und Enter-
tainment. Dargestellt werden entscheidende Mo-
mente aus dem Leben der Presleys: Seine ersten Auf-
nahmen im Sun Records Studio bis hin zu dem
ambivalenten Verhältnis zu seinem Manager Colonel
Parker geben einen kleinen Einblick in das Leben als

Bühnenhintergrund Filmausschnitte und Bilder von
Liveauftritten der unsterblichen Musikikone einge-
spielt. Vor allem Presleys preisgekrönte Gospelauf-
nahmen erfahren in dem Musical eine besondere
Wertschätzung: Neben Grahame Patrick brilliert das
„The Stamps Quartet“ – jener weltbekannte und
mehrfach mit dem Grammy ausgezeichnete Gospel-
chor, der von 1971 bis 1977 den echten Elvis auf
über 1.000 Konzerten begleitete sowie ihm bei
seiner Beerdigung die letzte Ehre erwies. Ed Enoch,
Originalmitglied des Chors, sorgt mit Tony Goforth,
Joe Combs und dem beeindruckend tiefen Bass von
Michael Means beispielsweise mit der A-cappella-
Performance von „Sweet Sweet Spirit“, einem von
Elvis’ Lieblingssongs, für Gänsehautmomente.

There are probably only three men on earth who
can pull off a cape in public: Batman, Elvis Presley
and his second-to-none successor, Grahame Patrick,
often referred to as “the best Elvis since Elvis“.
Fresh off of a 60-city European tour of the show,
Patrick returns to the Estrel Berlin from 12 August
to 6 September as the musical legend he‘s devoted
his career to. A dynamo of vocal power, charisma
and charm, Patrick is simply synonymous with the
King. When this Irishman thrusts his pelvis and
curls his upper lip while performing hits like
“Jailhouse Rock“, “Love Me Tender“ and “In the
Ghetto“, it‘s enough to make even the most casual
Elvis fan swoon. This full-throttle, feel-good musical
is song, dance and visual eye-candy rolled into an
Elvis epic, as we witness some of the most pivotal
events in Presley‘s life: From his early recording
sessions at Sun Records to the ups and downs of
his turbulent relationship with manager Colonel
Parker. Iconic publicity shots, photos from Presley‘s
concerts and beloved moments from his turn on
the silver screen make for an extraordinary stage
backdrop. One of the true highlights of the evening
is a set of unparalleled gospel tunes with a
little help from the Stamps Quartet, the Grammy-
winning male vocalists who accompanied Elvis from
1971 to 1977 during more than 1,000 concerts,
even performing at his funeral. Original group
member Ed Enoch brings down the house with his
show-stopping rendition of one of Elvis‘s favourite
gospel songs, “Sweet Sweet Spirit“, sung a cappella
alongside Tony Goforth, Joe Combs and booming
bass Michael Means.
