Students will create an event project about how Aruba has developed since gaining "Status Aparte" or separate status from the Netherlands in 1986. They must research Aruba's history, development between 1986 and 2011, and future plans. Students will visit national archives, hotels, tourism authorities, museums and libraries to gather information for a written report and PowerPoint presentation evaluating how "Status Aparte" has impacted Aruba over time. Their project will be presented to and graded by the class and instructor.
1. Introduction: Status Aparte Event Event management Project offers an introduction to the researching, planning, coordinating, marketing, management and evaluation of special events. The course content will explore the theories and practices relevant to successful event planning for host community residents and tourists.
2. Task: Status Aparte Event PROJECT: Student(s) will have to find/create an event that is (past, present, or future) part of what makesAruba today. The “Status Aparte” had influenced Aruba in many ways (e.g., more hotels, populations’growth, infrastructures, etc.). Student(s) will create a maquette based on the following: (1) Aruba history before the Status Parte; (2) between 1986 – January 1st, 2011 (25 Years of the Status Aparte); and (3) upcoming events/developments that will influenced Aruba in the coming years.
