“We’ve already managed to increase our warehouse inventory turnover by a factor of twelve through
Lean Methodology. Lean Enterprise for Microsoft Dynamics AX lets us accelerate and extend these
efficiencies, not only for our own operations, but throughout the supply chain in collaboration with our
suppliers and customers.”
Michael Gerster, President Wika Instruments Inc.

- 4. SUPPLIER KANBAN
Supplier Kanbans form one of the key elements of a pull-based production system.
Immediately upon request for a Supplier Kanban, when it is sent to the supplier to be refilled,
the Lean Manufacturing Vendor Enterprise Portal shows the supplier the Kanban order request.
Those Kanbans will show in the ‘Waiting Kanbans’ area.
The Lean Manufacturing Vendor Enterprise Portal is then used to view, edit and update Kanban
order requests by the supplier. The supplier can simply filter through the Kanbans based on
item numbers, dates, and quantities. The records can also be exported to Excel for quick
analysis. The supplier then confirms or declines the Kanbans and updates the quantities and
dates as needed. This information will then be immediately reflected within Microsoft
Dynamics AX providing accurate information and a Kanban status of ‘Confirmed by Supplier’ or
‘Declined by Supplier’.
Upon dispatching, the supplier can view all Confirmed Kanbans and print Kanban tickets to
ship along with the material.

- 5. Considering the records are linked straight into Microsoft Dynamics AX, purchasing
instantaneously sees the update in the Kanbans with a status of ‘Goods dispatched’.
The Lean Manufacturing Vendor Enterprise Portal provides an easy way for suppliers to
maintain and manage Supplier Kanbans in the real time environment needed in business
today.
SUBCONTRACTING KANBAN
Similar to Supplier Kanbans, suppliers can also view and edit Subcontracting Kanbans from the
Lean Manufacturing Vendor Enterprise Portal. Upon sending the Kanban to the Subcontractor,
outside processors can view requirements, edit these requirements with realistic quantities
and dates, Confirm or Decline the Kanban and Export Requirements to Excel for Analysis.
Upon updating these requirements, Microsoft Dynamics AX will immediately reflect the
changes in dates and quantities and update the Kanbans to statuses of ‘Confirmed by
subcontractor’ or ‘Declined by subcontractor’.

Manufacturing Vendor Enterprise Portal. Published purchase schedules can be viewed,
updated and confirmed by the supplier.

deliver to the schedule. The entire schedule can be confirmed by the supplier as can the
capacity of the supplier. All updates are reflected within the Microsoft Dynamics AX purchase
schedule. Here both purchase schedule lines and the purchase schedule status reflects that
changes:

ABOUT THE LEAN CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Microsoft and eBECS established the Lean Centre of Excellence to serve as a collaborative facility for

successful Lean implementation is not simply about providing the right software tools; just as important are the
skills of the team that architect and deliver the solution.
If you are an organisation considering the implementation of Lean ERP; investigating discrete areas of the
functionality to enhance your traditional approach or already a customer using Microsoft Dynamics AX and
perhaps looking to adopt the lean functionality; a Microsoft Dynamics Partner interested in achieving the
certification required to sell, support and implement the Lean solutions; a Lean Professional interested in helping
others by sharing practical experiences or just simply interested in learning what Lean has to offer, then we would
encourage you to become a member of this lean community by visiting www.leancentreofexcellence.com to sign
up for free membership.
Becoming a member of this community will provide you with a place to ask questions, share your experiences,
access the latest materials and ultimately expand your knowledge. Joining The Lean Centre of Excellence will
ensure you are kept up to date with news, events and training opportunities through the Centre. You will also be
able to learn about the additional capability that eBECS provides in Lean Manufacturing II, III and the Vendor
Portal, which addresses some of the more advanced Lean requirements of a Lean Enterprise including the key
Lean requirements for the Automotive, Aerospace & Defence, High Tech and the Medical Devices & Equipment
