Buffet
A long line of food is a wonderful sight for
                                                     food-lovers. Popular in casinos, hotel
                                                     breakfasts, and even friendly
                                                     neighborhoodrestaurants, buffets are where
people go for casual or formal dining where
they want a variety of food choices to
choose from to satisfy their hunger or just to
enjoy a whole lot of choices.

Here, customers help themselves to portions as food is displayed in a public area. Utensils and
flatware may be placed in the table setting or included in the buffet table. Just like in sit-down
meals, buffets have courses like soup, salad, appetizer, main course and dessert. Instead of
reading from a menu and making a choice and portions controlled the food already there on
display for the customer to see. There are no waiters to bring the food but the customer helps
himself to his or her portions. Some buffets have staffed stations, where diners bring their plates
and a server places a portion of food in it.

                                                              Aside from restaurants and hotels,
                                                              buffets are also common in
                                                              informal settings such as family
reunions and holiday parties or in
                                                              formal occasions such as weddings
or birthdays. The food on display
alone serves as a treat to the eyes
as well as the senses. It’s perfect
for serving a large number of
people, as it has become the
                                                              popular meal type for parties
whether it be a big office party or a
                                                              small house party.

Buffets need not be an entire meal. Salad bars, supermarkets, and soda fountains have buffets
where a customer helps himself to portions from a wide array of choices and pay by weight. This
is the case with salad bars or yogurt or ice-cream bars. This is different too from all-you-can-eat
buffets, where there is a fixed price for a meal and the diner can help themselves to as much food
as they want until the meal is over. This is very popular in hotels and casinos and sometimes, in
restaurants. There are even buffets that have specific themes, like having a particular cuisine
(Chinese food or Japanese food) or
                                                             pizza-pasta or seafood and sometimes,
even snacks like chips, dip, a few
                                                             sandwiches, pizza, and some soda.

Buffets are enjoyed by both young and
old. A variety of food displayed is
certainly something to look forward to
in every gathering or lunch excursion
to a new restaurant. The choices are
limitless so it’s all up to the diner to
gather what he wants and enjoy it
alone or in the company of friends and
                                                           family.
