                      January, 2012
If 2nd-5th grade students support all
    answers with evidence through
reading, writing, or discussion in at
least 90 % of instructional activities
and questions at the divergent and
     evaluative levels are asked of
students daily in each content, then
we will increase the percentage of
students that score 80% on eValuate
      reading and mathematics.

Editor's Notes

  1. Hello. This is Dr. Arbetter, principal at Walker Elementary School. I am pleased to share with you an update on our progress on our 2nd Achievement Strategy for the month of January.
  2. Achievement Strategy #2 reads: If 2nd-5th grade students support all answers with evidence through reading, writing, or discussion in at least 90 % of instructional activities, and questions at the divergent and evaluative levels are asked of students daily in each content, then we will increase the percentage of students that score 80% or higher on eValuate reading and mathematics.
  3. This graph shows the grade level breakdown of the percentage of students proficient in reading each month this year. 4th grade stayed at 67% proficient and all the other grade levels did decrease in January. With the exception of 5th grade, all of our other students are close to or higher than their proficiency levels in previous years during the month of January.
  4. On this graph, you can see Walker’s proficiency rate in reading for the last 5 years. As you can see, Walker students decreased to slightly below where they were last year at this time.
  5. With the exception of 4th grade, Walker’s grade levels increased their proficiency rate in the month of January in mathematics.
  6. Our overall math proficiency rate on eValuate continues to increase and we had the highest proficiency rate since 2008. Currently, 42% of Walker’s students are proficient in mathematics.Next week, I plan to share with you our progress on our 3rd Achievement Strategy.
