The Community Assistance Program offers free Rx discount cards and can save those who are without prescription an average of 55% on generic medications and 10-15% on brand name drugs.
The Cap program has reached out to over 375 million people who have to pay full price for their prescription medications. These cards are free to use and can benefit people who are struggling to pay for their prescription medications. The Cap card is meant for people who are uninsured or underinsured and can be used at any major pharmacy.
“Regional Outreach Coordinator Michael Hargrove says, sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have insurance which allows us to have full health insurance coverage with low prescription copays. I received regular phone calls from people who are begging for help. Sometimes this is very hard to hear their stories in which they are not taking their heart medications, blood pressure medications because of the cost. I will look up their discount prices and research the cheapest pharmacy discount price. At the end of the day, I feel much better because these people have thanked me so much for helping them.
Michael says, He would like to thank the doctor offices, hospitals, social services and other assistance program who take the time to hand out these discount cards in their offices.
If you know anyone who needs assitance then please have in your heart and make a difference by telling them about these cards.
Trust me, you will feel better about yourself at the end of the day when the person who used the card comes back to you with a smile and thanks you for thinking of them.

Who needs a card?
Anyone with limited or no prescription drug coverage
People who already have insurance coverage may still find
the card useful as it can discount medications that are not
covered by their health plan.
The prescription drug savings card can also be especially
useful to seniors enrolled in Medicare; it has been estimated
that as many as 38% of Medicare recipients lack prescription
drug coverage.
9. 9
Are there any forms or pre-qualification for
someone to use the CAP Rx savings card?
Absolutely None
The CAP Rx savings card is a “bearer card” meaning
anyone presenting the card at a participating pharmacy can
receive a savings. There is absolutely no gathering of any
personal information at time of use.
10. 10
How will someone using a CAP Rx savings card
know if they’re getting a discount?
With CAP, an Rx savings card user can go
to YOUR WEBSITE HERE identifier and see
what the price of the drug is at their local
pharmacy.
The Rx savings card user can ask the
pharmacist at the time of purchase how much
of a discount they received using the card.
11. 11
What prescription drugs are eligible for a discount
when using the CAP Rx savings card?
All FDA approved prescription drugs
are eligible for a discount with the
Community Assistance Program (CAP)
Rx savings card.
“Lifestyle Drugs” such as EDF (erectile
dysfunction), hair loss, fertility, smoking
cessation, and weight loss meds
12. 12
Will the person get a discount every time the CAP
Rx savings card is used?
A person using the card will get a discount
approximately 94% of the time.
The reason it is not 100% of the time is that
pharmacies from time to time price certain drugs
at cost to attract customers to their stores. In this
type of situation the cardholder would get the
lowest price without needing the discount card.
13. 13
Some ways a CAP Rx savings card can be used
with insurance.
Limited Formularies – Insurance companies are increasingly
limiting which drugs they will pay for. For example: Birth Control
- Diabetic Supplies - Smoking cessation and other lifestyle drugs
such as obesity, erectile dysfunction, hair loss, fertility drugs,
etc. that they decide are not cost effective for them.
High deductible plans – The CAP Rx savings card allows
people to get discounts on Rx Drugs before they reach the level
at which the insurance company starts paying benefits.
Medicare Part D – The CAP Rx savings card can be used to
secure discounts on those drugs that are excluded from
Medicare Part D. It will also provide discounts when a person on
Medicare reaches the “donut hole coverage gap”.
The Discount Card does not provide an additional savings if you
have already used your insurance card. The two cannot be
combined or used together.
The program works even if a CAP Rx card user has insurance.
