Transcript of "Vo ip"

 1. 1. VoIP By Claire Aquilina and Sally Raper
 2. 2. VoIP

It stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP uses the internet to make calls rather than the public switched Telephone network (PSTN). A digital telephone service that uses the Internet for call transport.

 3. 3. Strengths

VoIP businesses of different shapes and sizes can gain benefit from it because it will help reduce telephone costs and streamlines their communications networks .

 4. 4. Weaknesses

Noise is distortion of the signal. Network address transition (Nat) the masking of private IP addresses from public view, can break VoIP by making it impossible to set up SIP-based calls over the Internet to devices with private IP addresses.

It needs a firewall that can handle traffic. It’s vulnerable to hackers. The news is that there still lots of potholes that can ruin VoIP implementation.

 5. 5. Practicalities

A broadband Internet connection is required to make VoIP calls. Depending on your service, you might be allowed to connect only to other subscribers to the service. The major advantage of VoIP and the Internet calls is that it does not charge.

 6. 6. Use by Public

There is a different between making a local call and a long distance call by not charging for it.

 7. 7. Use by business

Businesses sometimes use Skype because it is cheaper, but the quality can be poor and there is traffic, so it is risky using it instead of an ordinary phone line.

 8. 8.

THE END
