2. Museu Machado de Castro
O The National Museum Machado de Castro is
one of the most important museums of fine
arts and archeology of Portugal. It is housed
in the old Episcopal Palace of Coimbra,
classified as a National Monument in 1910.
3. Quinta das Lágrimas
O It is located on the left bank of the Mondego
river. Its gardens gather memories since the
fourteenth century, ancient trees and its
own history.
4. Jardim Botânico
O It belongs to the Ibero-Macaronesian
Association of Botanic Gardens and BGCI
(Botanical Gardens Conservation
International), and presents conservation
programs for the International Agenda for
Botanic Gardens in Conservation. Its
international identification code is COI.
5. Penedo da Saudade
O Penedoda Saudade is a park and viewpoint
of Coimbra, built in 1849, which overlooks
the river Mondego. Here you will find diverse
vegetation, some plaques commemorating
events related to academic life and poetry.
6. Universidade de Coimbra
O It is the oldest University of Portugal. It has
eight different colleges; architecture,
education, engineering, humanities, law,
mathematics, medicine, natural sciences,
psychology, social sciences and sports. On
June 22nd, 2013 it was declared World
Heritage by UNESCO.
7. Igreja de Santa Cruz
O The Church of Santa Cruz was founded in
1131 with the support of D.Afonso
Henriques and D. Sancho I, who are buried
there. It is Manueline style and one of the
main historical and artistic monuments of
the country.
