A legislative information visualization tool to illuminate the inner workings of the NYS Senate
A dashboard styled application with views for the key components of the NYS Senate: State Senators , Committees , and the Bills themselves
Leverages the NYS Senate CIO's OpenLegislation API
We hope to later expand the functionality past that of just the NYS Senate to the rest of NYS gov't

NYS government is notorious for corruption problems (ex-Governor Spitzer and current Governor Paterson are good examples)
Increased gov’t transparency crucial for trust
Open Legislation has made a lot of legislation available online and searchable, but the content isn't in a usable or understandable format
Especially for those who aren't familiar with the inner workings of the NYS Senate

Who want to make informed decisions about their elected officials in state gov’t
Who want to influence the law-making process in NYS through their elected officials
Who are interested in specific issues and want to know what proposed legislation is out there on the issue
