Audience Targeting
1.
2. Target Gender
The stereotypical gender to watch an action is male, as males are more likely to
find the conventions of an action film (shooting and car chases) more enjoyable
than women.
For example the target audience of Skyfall, the 23rd installment of the James
Bond series, was targeted primarily for males as it consisted of multiple gun fights
and car chases. However previous versions of this film series has set a target
audience as we know what to expect to feature in these films.
This would mean I would have to show my target audience clearly in the adverts
for my film so it appealed to the correct audience.
However, my secondary audience would be obviously women meaning I need
to keep them entertained. Mostly they would enjoy the SFX included in the
film, however I could include a female character that they could relate to.
3. Target Age
I want my target age to also be conventional of an action film (usually around the
16-40 mark). This is because it is conventional in action films for there to be
violence and bad language that I wouldn’t want to expose to small children as
this would be ethically wrong. However, to maximize the target audience and
potential gross, I could limit the violence and not use bad language making it
also suitable for children.
But due to the content of typical action films, elderly people may not enjoy the
film as much.
4. Target Class
My target class would most likely be middle class to the lower classes as
stereotypically higher classes don’t tend to watch them. Lower and middle tend
to enjoy an action film where there are car and gun fights regularly or a comedy
film filled with jokes and gags, where as upper classes may enjoy other genres
such as a romance drama such as Titanic or Les Miserables.
