3. What is ‘hyper reality’? ‘Hyper reality is used in semiotics and postmodern philosophy to describe a hypothetical inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from fantasy, especially in technologically advanced postmodern cultures. Hyper reality is a means to characterize the way consciousness defines what is actually "real" in a world where a multitude of media can radically shape and filter an original event or experience.’ In other words, hyper reality is the inability to differentiate reality from fantasy; a concept that has only been around since the media has started making a bigger and bigger impact on our everyday lives.
4. For example: Disneyland When people go to Disneyland, the way in which it is presented means that some people actually believe and by into what they are seeing.Everything is portrayed as magical and you are fooled into believing you have entered a fantasy world, and therefore the people there (young, presumably) cannot help but find it real.
5. Reality TV Reality TV is a concept that has only really developed since the early 2000’s. With programmes such as ‘Big Brother’ and ‘The X Factor’, fame and fortune is given to those who are willing to change their lives into something it is not, and therefore a new reality is created. In most cases, it’s a more exciting and adventurous reality, hence the appeal.
6. Gaming Due to the ever increasing realism of video games, it doesn’t take much for the audience to become consumed and taken over by the world in which the characters find themselves. This, in many instances, has far gone the expectations of the games’ creators, as few instances have resulted in killings of real people, due to the violent nature of the games.
