INTRODUCTION
haemostasis is achieved by several mechanisms
including mainly:
Vascular contraction
Formation of a platelet plug
Formation of a blood clot as a result of blood
coagulation.
Eventual growth of fibrous tissue into the blood clot
to close the hole in the vessel properly.

5. Haemostop®
Haemostop® (Ethamsylate) is a prostacycline
synthetase inhibitor. As prostacycline is a
vasodialator, Ethamsylate does this to help
effective RESTORING CAPILLARY
RESISTANCE.
Haemostop® (Ethamsylate) reduces rapidly
and substantially the bleeding time (40-45% after
the first half-hour). Its effect remains at a
therapeutic level until the sixth hour (23%) then
declines progressively.

Haemostop® (Ethamsylate) augments the
formation of platelet plug by increasing the
aggregation and adhesiveness of platelet and
restores Capillary Resistance (Angioprotective)
Haemostop® not causes vasoconstriction, or
anti-fibrinolytic actions and does not modify the
plasma clotting factors (fibrinogen level and
coagulation time remain unchanged).

Haemostop® in:
Pregnancy: Studies in animals have
revealed no teratogenic effect of
Ethamsylate. Use only if clearly
needed.
Lactation: Signification amount is
excreted in milk but not known to be
harmful.

Dosage & Administration: Curative treatment: According
to the severity of the case:
- 2 ampoules I.V. or I.M., then 1 ampoule or 2 tablets
Haemostop® 250mg or one tablet Haemostop® 500mg
every 4 to 6 hours until there is no further risk of
bleeding.
- By local application: A tampon of cotton-wool is
soaked with the content of one ampoule and applied to
the bleeding area or placed in the tooth socket after a
dental extraction. The application may be repeated if
necessary and may also be associated with oral or
parenteral administration.

Dosage & Administration: Curative treatment:
According to the severity of the case:
- Before operation: 2 ampoules I.V. or I.M. 1
hour before operation or 2 or 3 tablets
Haemostop® 250mg 3 hours before operation.
- During operation: 2 ampoules I.V. to be
repeated if necessary.
- After operation: 1 ampoule or 2 tablets
Haemostop® 250mg or one tablet Haemostop®
500mg every 6 hours as long as the risk of
bleeding persists.

Ampoules of 2ml in packs of 3 Ampoules.
Tablets :
Strips of 10 Tablets Haemostop® 250mg in packs of 1
or 2 strips.
Strips of 5 Tablets Haemostop® 500mg in packs of 2
strips.
