1. Elementary School Reference Materials Order

After evaluating the reference section within an elementary school, grades pre-k through 5th grade, I
decided to order the following materials. One main concern was the ability of the teachers to use the reference
materials outside of the media center. As a general rule, the reference items are not available for check out and
must stay in the media center. This is an issue for many teachers as they attempt to cover information literacy
topics. Duplicates of many of these items are orders so that they can be available for teachers to checkout and
use within the classroom.
As of this date the school does not have access to an encyclopedia online, except for those created on the
Internet. For this reason, an encyclopedia and 3D atlas software was ordered for use on the media center
computers. This will also for students to research online for projects and interest. Several other print items were
ordered to keep the reference section up-to-date. Many of these items will be available for circulation so that
they are used outside of the media center.
Online reference resources were located for student use in the media center, classroom, computer lab, or at
home. These websites were arranged on a wikipage, which is available at “Library Resources Online” wiki. These
sources are sorted by subject area and color coded for age levels.
