For the twelfth year in a row, Orlando
and Las Vegas remain the top two most
popular summer destinations booked by
ASTA travel agents. Orlando came out on
top with a 17 percent share of responses
and Las Vegas maintained the second
spot with 14 percent of the votes.
However, both cities have decreased
market share between 2007 and 2014
(as you see in Exhibit 2).
New Orleans is new to the list pushing
Seattle out of the top ten.

The top four international destination
cities remained the same for the
eleventh year in a row. London
received a 9 percent share of the vote
followed by Rome with an 8 percent,
Paris with an 8 percent, and Cancun
with a 5 percent share of the vote.
Florida again tops the state
destinations for the 2014 summer
season, accounting for 23 percent of
all responses with cities such as
Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and
Tampa as draws. Nevada drew the
second largest number of responses
with a 13 percent share with Las
Vegas the only city reported.

For regions and countries, Italy
remained in the top location with 18
percent share of the votes and Mexico
moved up to second place again after
two years in third and fourth place.
The same five countries/regions have
remained in the top five for over eight
years.

Located in the U.S., so ease of travel combined with
great beaches, laid-back atmosphere and beautiful
resorts.
Many all Inclusives, short flight distance, sun,
beaches and great service.
A good combination of beach and activities in a
beautiful location.
Carefree, laid back, great all inclusive choices and
good pricing. Everything is slow-paced and it helps
you slow down too.
Can see multiple islands without packing/unpacking
in an all-inclusive atmosphere. Activities abound or
you can just hang at the pool.

The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), 2014. “2014 Hot Spots for Summer”.
Alexandria, VA: The American Society of Travel Agents
Great Caribbean and Jerk flavors combined with
fresh local ingredients make for great meals.
Sheer number of great chefs, restaurants and
cuisines available. Many venues opened late also a
boon.
Why?
Food varies from region to region and is superb
everywhere. Fresh ingredients and great wine make
for a wonderful dining experience.
The best local cuisine can be found in Paris due to
the number of excellent chefs and the local sourcing
that is taking place. It is hard to get a bad meal in
Paris.
Melded flavors of Cajun, Creole and French create
wonderful and varied meals. Lots of restaurants
opened late make it convenient for travelers.
Survey data was collected through the 2014 ASTA Research Family. The ASTA Research Family is comprised of a
representative sample of ASTA member travel agency owners and managers. The Research Family reflects ASTA
members in key agency demographics including sales volume, leisure/business mix, number of part-time and full-time
employees and geographic location. Members were recruited randomly and were contracted to complete a survey
every four to five weeks from January 2014 through October 2014. The Family’s size varies from survey to survey due to
non-response, agency closings, mergers, and changes in membership status, but is designed to yield a response
representative of all ASTA agency members.
The survey data was collected online via surveygizmo.com in January 2014. Of the 449 family members, 449 completed
the survey. This reply level indicates a minimum of 95% confidence with an error rate +/-4% representing the total ASTA
agency membership. This is considered to be a strong sample with reliable results.

Orlando came out on top with a 17 percent share of responses and Las Vegas maintained the second spot with 14 percent of the votes. However, both cities have decreased market share between 2007 and 2014 (as you see in Exhibit 2). New Orleans is new to the list pushing Seattle out of the top ten.

London received a 9 percent share of the vote followed by Rome with an 8 percent, Paris with an 8 percent, and Cancun with a 5 percent share of the vote. Florida again tops the state destinations for the 2014 summer season, accounting for 23 percent of all responses with cities such as Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa as draws. Nevada drew the second largest number of responses with a 13 percent share with Las Vegas the only city reported.

Many all Inclusives, short flight distance, sun, beaches and great service. A good combination of beach and activities in a beautiful location. Carefree, laid back, great all inclusive choices and good pricing. Everything is slow-paced and it helps you slow down too. Can see multiple islands without packing/unpacking in an all-inclusive atmosphere. Activities abound or you can just hang at the pool.

Alexandria, VA: The American Society of Travel Agents Great Caribbean and Jerk flavors combined with fresh local ingredients make for great meals. Sheer number of great chefs, restaurants and cuisines available. Many venues opened late also a boon. Why? Food varies from region to region and is superb everywhere. Fresh ingredients and great wine make for a wonderful dining experience. The best local cuisine can be found in Paris due to the number of excellent chefs and the local sourcing that is taking place. It is hard to get a bad meal in Paris. Melded flavors of Cajun, Creole and French create wonderful and varied meals. Lots of restaurants opened late make it convenient for travelers. Survey data was collected through the 2014 ASTA Research Family. The ASTA Research Family is comprised of a representative sample of ASTA member travel agency owners and managers. The Research Family reflects ASTA members in key agency demographics including sales volume, leisure/business mix, number of part-time and full-time employees and geographic location. Members were recruited randomly and were contracted to complete a survey every four to five weeks from January 2014 through October 2014. The Family’s size varies from survey to survey due to non-response, agency closings, mergers, and changes in membership status, but is designed to yield a response representative of all ASTA agency members. The survey data was collected online via surveygizmo.com in January 2014. Of the 449 family members, 449 completed the survey. This reply level indicates a minimum of 95% confidence with an error rate +/-4% representing the total ASTA agency membership. This is considered to be a strong sample with reliable results.
