1. SLIDE1 :<br />Our Presentation today is on Herodotus and why you should elect him as the man of this Era. By William Meng and Cutris ho.<br />Slide2 :<br />This is the Early life of Herodotus:<br />Herodotus was born in 485 B.C. in the Greek city of Halicarnassus. Halicarnassus was a commercial center on the coast of the Asian minor. The arrow on the left points to the city of Halicarnassus.<br />Herodotus was born to a wealthy merchant family.<br />Slide3:<br />Childhood of Herodotus:<br />Herodotus had an chaotic childhood. When he was young, the Persians came and conquered Halicarnassus , his home town. Lygdamis, a tyraant, came in charge. He was a very cruel tyrant. The people of Halicarnassus hated him and started many rebellions. Herodotus’ family was part of this anti-Persian rebellion. After this rebellion, Herodotus left the city and never came back again.<br />On the map, The green color shows the greeks while the orange color shows the extent of the Persian empire. Again, the arrow points at halicarnussus.<br />Slide4:<br />Herodotus’ life:<br />Herodotus traveled from city to city. He went to almost all of the Persian territories. He has also been to many parts of northern Africa.<br />His favorite city however, is always Athens. He always returns to Athens after every journey. <br />Herodotus became one of the most popular writer/historian in Athens<br />Slide 5:<br />Death of Herodotus, the hero.<br />Herodotus came to the city of Thuria, Italy. In the city he was editing one of his most famous books called “The Histories”.<br />In 425 B.c. he died there of an unknown reason.<br />But, some other sources say he died in Bodrum, Turkey.<br />Slide 6:<br />Here are some of the main achievements of Herodotus:<br />Created a map of the entire Europe and Northern Africa.<br />Herodotus wrote down reports of battles including Battle of Marathon, which provides first hand information for historians today to learn further information about the battle.<br />He worked on a project called “The Histories”. It contains an exclusive amount of information about the Greco-Persian Wars. In the book, there are also many information about Alexandria and Carthage.<br />Slide 7:<br />Well, after all, why should I be the man of the era?<br />This is because:<br />I provided most of the battle reports from the greek-persian war. These reports help many present-day historians to understand the Greeks.<br />I was also some of the first to make a map of Europe, without me, there may not be another map of Europe until way later in the history.<br />Slide 8:<br />The End.
