Testimonials
The Distinguished Young Women (DYW) program (formerly America’s Junior Miss) has taught me the meaning of
passion for something without return; it has taught me the true meaning of selflessness. In the words of each participant, “I
am not a winner from a group of representatives, but rather a representative from a group of winners.” This positive
attitude is the light and heart of why DYW is a successful program. It reflects all the goodness, kindness, and purity that
our society can have. Because of my experiences in this program I am someone who is happy with who she is for I have
been allowed to explore me, making me feel more comfortable in my own skin and nobody else’s. It has truly brought out
the best in me that I never even knew existed.
Hope Lu, North Carolina’s Junior Miss 2005
The Distinguished Young Women (DYW) program (formerly America’s Junior Miss) supplied me with the confidence
and the financial backing to help get me to this point in my life, a Pharmacist. Interviews are a piece of cake now!
Brooke Reavis Tatum, Oklahoma’s Junior Miss 2001,
Pawnee’s Junior Miss 2001
It still makes me smile to think about all of the wonderful people that I had a chance to meet while being a part of the
Junior Miss program. The platform and ideals of AJM are not just a program, but a lifestyle. I experienced a significant
amount of growth and maturity because of the opportunities that AJM gave me through interviews, public speaking, and
interacting with new people in new social circumstances. We are so fortunate to have a program in our area. I only wish
the best for its future participants and hope that it will be as much of a launching point for them as it was for me.

Community Service
During the eight weeks of rehearsals the Participants take part in two community service
projects. Examples of past projects are:
Habitat Restore – Participants work at the Habitat Restore in Stillwater to do various
activities to help the store run smoothly. The Restore sells donated items such as paint,
furniture, lawn mowers, etc. to raise funds to build Habitat houses.
Westwood Elementary School Carnival – Participants help set up and run the games
for the children and families of Westwood. It’s a fundraising event to aid the school in
purchasing much needed items.
Stillwater Group Homes – Participants assist with a Valentines party for 60 Group
Home residents. This is a very well attended and very well liked social activity by the
residents.
Stillwater Festival of the Arts Children’s Fun Area – During the Festival of the Arts
participants help the children with face paint, make beaded necklaces and bracelets, and
general painting skills.
