New Jersey podiatrist Dr. Amannda Richline holds a soft spot in her heart for animals, particularly parrots and their relatives. Her longtime podiatry practice, which she opened in Belvidere, New Jersey, in 1998 is decorated in an animal motif, and the Animal Planet television channel plays in the reception area. Dr. Amannda Richline has rescued a 4H Grand Champion steer from slaughter and has become the go-to person for kittens, cats, birds, and other critters in need. A life project, the not-for-profit Sy’s Piece of Heaven in Easton, Pennsylvania, began with a single parrot. While working in a nursing home, the animal lover heard about a drug bust that left a parrot homeless.
