Beijing is littered with hotels and hostels, but many travelers have found that haphazardly
selecting a place to stay while visiting China’s capital can make for a less than enjoyable.
Below are eight hostels which can ensure a comfortable stay in Beijing.

 1. Happy Dragon Hostel
The Happy Dragon Hostel is located near the Dong Si Metro station just to the northeast
of the Forbidden City. Popular spots including Wangfujing (shopping) and Sanlitun (bar
area) are within walking distance. The hostel offers a wide range of services including
internet, laundry, bike rental, printing, and tours of different locations in Beijing including
the Great Wall. Rooms are fairly clean and well kept, and many of the staff can speak
English.

2. Beijing City Central Youth Hotel
The Central Youth Hotel is located not far from Beijing Railway Station. Despite its
name, it is quite like a hostel. Its 274 rooms include singles, doubles, and shared dorms
which accommodate up to eight people. The Central Youth Hotel is well staffed, clean,
has central air conditioning with temperature controls in each room. A large common area
(known as the Backpacker Club) which includes a lounge, kitchen, and computer lab can
be found on the third floor of the hotel. The services provided here include laundry,
reservations, bike rental, high speed internet, and tours to the Great Wall.

3. Red Lantern House
The Red Lantern House has three locations in Beijing, but the main building is located to
the Northwest of the Forbidden City, not far from the Xinjiekou and Pinganli stops of
subway line 4. The hostel is located in a hutong (alley) area replete with restaurants and
shopping centers. The Temple of Heaven is the nearest tourist attraction. All of the
buildings of this hostel retain the traditional architectural style Characteristic of Beijing
during imperial times, containing multiple courtyards, each with goldfish ponds. The
furnishings are vibrant, distinctively Chinese, and at times elaborate. Red Chinese
lanterns are ubiquitous throughout the grounds of this hostel. Services include laundry,
ticketing, tours, and airport pick-up.

4. Sunrise Hostel
The Sunrise Hostel is located in central Beijing, a ten minute walk east of the Forbidden
City, five minutes walking distance from Wangfujing. This hostel features an interesting
interior design scheme, displaying a few uniquely Chinese furnishings. The rooms are
fairly clean and well kept. Services include laundry, free wireless internet, tours, printing,
and pick-up. Weekly activities are organized by the staff, the most popular of which is the
dumpling party.

5. Sanlitun Youth Hostel
The Sanlitun Youth Hostel is located in Beijing’s Sanlitun bar area, an ideal location for
travelers interested in the nightlife to stay. There are also a number of restaurants and
shopping centers in the area, and the metro flanks the area on two sides. All of the rooms
of the hostel are air conditioned, and are supplied with basic amenities. The common area
of the hostel contains a foosball and many other forms of entertainment. The Sanlitun
Hostel offers bike rental for its boarders.

6. Peking Yard Hostel
The Peking Yard Hostel is located just to the northeast of downtown Beijing, east of
Jingshan Park. Tourist attractions such as the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are
easily accessible via the metro which is nearby. Peking Yard sits in an area containing
many restaurants and shops. Rooms range from singles to shared dorm rooms. The
common area features a pool table and DVD library. Other facilities include a kitchen and
laundry room. Wireless internet is also available.

7. King’s Joy International Hostel
The King’s Joy International Hostel is located in downtown Beijing to the south and
within walking distance of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The immediate
surround dings of the hostel include a myriad of restaurants, shops, and tea houses. The
common areas of the hostel include a game room and a bar on the top floor with a
panorama like view. Services are extensive and include internet, pick up, bike rental,
laundry, and currency exchange. Rooms range from singles to family rooms.
8. Dragon King Hostel
The Dragon King Hostel is located to the northeast of Downtown Beijing, very close to
Subway Line 5. The immediate vicinity includes lots of restaurants, shops and, bars. The
Dragon King is a good budget hostel with exceptionally low rates and decent service. The
hostel is air conditioned and facilities include a laundry room, lockers, and a recreational
common area. This hostel provides free wireless internet access.
