2. Pop opera- is of a classical sound, but with a modern pop
sound of music.
An example – of a pop musical, Argentina's Evita, based
on the life of Eva Perón composer Andrew Lloyd Webber,
-.
There is very little dialogue as this is what sets it aside
from your typical musical hence opening up and appealing
to a wider spectrum of people who would not go to a opera
– or those who would not go to theatre Pop opera has the
flavour of both opera and theatre combined.
The music employs synthesizers and drum sets, using
rock music and pop-style singing.
3. "pop" style of music to a classical opera
sound
European "mega-musicals" or "pop operas," featured a pop-
influence and came about during 1980s and 1990s. – the sets
and cast were large and the effects were elaborate such as a
falling chandelier (in Phantom of the opera), and helicopter
landing on stage (in Miss Saigon). Many were based on novels
or other works of literature.
Musical have been changing since the 1850s. And change is the
clearest sign that the musical are still popular entertainment.
4. Les Miserables has been one of the longest
running musical big cast extravaganzas to hit the
London's West End and its story line is more
serious that most over musicals and permits the
inclusion of choral numbers and light operatic
pieces which provide a tremendously emotional
event which raises the audiences conventional
feelings of participation and create an intense
evening for all involved.
5. Les Miserables was different to previous musicals due
to the way musicals have changed in general.
Musicals were no longer made for a specific audience
as everyone could come and enjoy the play. Also
technology has drastically changed having a great
impact on the play as their is now much more lighting
and sounds effects, creating a more realistic
atmosphere. Musicals were very much based on what
was going on at the time, whereas a play such as Les
Miserables was simply aimed to create a good
atmosphere for the audience and to get them
engaged in the play.
6. Musicals kept changing throughout the years and
never stop changing. Musicals changed this way
mainly due to technology and society. As society
changed so did technology. As musicals used to be
very much about what was going on in society, for
example during the great depression, musicals were
based around what was going during the great
depression. Also as technology has grown, plays use
a lot more lighting and sound effects. Pop Operas
were made for pure entertainment, for anyone to
come and watch.
