Programme Overview: <ul><li>Europe is not fully exploiting its entrepreneurial potential-failing to encourage enough people to become entrepreneurs </li></ul><ul><li>The EU initiated the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme in 2009 as an innovative response to dual challenge of stimulating entrepreneurship and encouraging cross-border trade in Europe </li></ul>

General Objective: <ul><li>To help start-up entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs enrich their experiences, to acquire relevant skills for running and developing an SME; learning and networking by spending periods of time in enterprises run by experienced entrepreneurs in other EU m/s </li></ul><ul><li>To enhance the entrepreneurship, internationalistation and competitiveness of new and established SMEs within the EU </li></ul>

Main actors: <ul><li>Beneficiaries: </li></ul><ul><li>New Entrepreneurs (NE) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Entrepreneurs who are firmly planning to start their own business </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Entrepreneurs who have recently started their own business (been in operation for less than three years) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Host Entrepreneurs (HE) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Successful and experience entrepreneurs-owners of a SME for more than three years </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>People directly involved in entrepreneurship at SME management board level </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Facilitators </li></ul><ul><li>Intermediary Organisations (IOs) </li></ul><ul><li>Support Office (First Elements Euroconsultants Ltd) </li></ul><ul><li>European Commission (DG ENTR) </li></ul>22/11/11

Concept: <ul><li>New entrepreneurs travel to an experienced entrepreneur in another EU country (different form their country of residence) and work with him/her for 1 to 6 months. </li></ul><ul><li>The matching of the new entrepreneurs with the host entrepreneurs is carried out with the help of the Intermediary Organisations. </li></ul><ul><li>Intermediary Organisations-entities engaged in business support operating in national or regional lever-officially appointed by the EC. Among their responsibilities is to propose match-making services and establish successful relationships between entrepreneurs </li></ul>

How does it work? <ul><li>Step 1: Application ( www.erasmus-entrepreneurs.eu ) </li></ul><ul><li>Step 2: Assessment of the applications by the IOs </li></ul><ul><li>Step 3: Matching of NE-HE </li></ul><ul><li>Step 4: Contracting and preparation </li></ul><ul><li>Step 5: The NE received a lump sum amount for the IO to cover the travel and accommodation costs </li></ul><ul><li>Step 6: Stay abroad </li></ul>22/11/11

  9. 9. <ul><li>Matching </li></ul><ul><li>Matching of NE and HE with the help of the 2 IOs </li></ul><ul><li>Contracting and preparation </li></ul><ul><li>HE, NE and IOs establish agreements; </li></ul><ul><li>NE does pre-departure induction; </li></ul><ul><li>NE receives a grant. </li></ul>NE IO IO HE
  10. 10. <ul><li>Stay abroad </li></ul><ul><li>Duration: 1-6 months; </li></ul><ul><li>On-site support provided by the host IO to the NE; </li></ul><ul><li>Reporting about the exchange. </li></ul>NE IO HE IO

Benefits for the new entrepreneur (Maria) <ul><li>Maria has: </li></ul><ul><li>Gained valuable experience in running a business in a relevant field, of potential pitfalls and how to avoid them; </li></ul><ul><li>Gained knowledge on access to finance, business management, marketing, etc…allowing her to refine her business plan; </li></ul><ul><li>Acquired international perspectives, opening her eyes to possible opportunities beyond or Spanish market and a potential business partner. </li></ul>22/11/11
