I’m happy to be here with you today. This is a great opportunity for me to discuss how the world in which we live and do business is changing and how all those changes are driven by our industry – IT.
I think that you will all agree to say that we have a common need - the need to manage more data and more complexity than we’ve ever faced before. The need to manage speed – everything from time to market, to customer response. And finally the need to manage opportunities – opportunities the likes of which our industry has never seen.
Transition: And changing the world and doing things that matter are no small goals – but that’s what HP can help you achieve.
HP was founded by engineers and Stanford graduates Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in 1939 in a garage on Addison Avenue in Palo Alto and has become a key part of the history of Silicon Valley.
Bill and Dave started the company with only $538 and decided on the order of the Hewlett-Packard Company name with a coin toss.
Our first product was an audio oscillator– an instrument used to test sound equipment.
Walt Disney Studios was an early customer. They ordered 8 audio oscillators at $71.50 each to use in the production of the 1939 Disney movie Fantasia.
From that 2-person operation in a garage, HP has grown to be the leading technology company it is today.
Today, HP is one of the world’s largest providers of information technology infrastructure, software, services, and solutions to individuals and organizations of all sizes. We are the #1 or #2 leader in almost all product categories in which we compete. What does that mean to you? It means that we have the best solutions you need to drive your organization forward.
Since its humble beginnings in a garage, HP has grown into a $112 billion company with more than 270,000 employees who work in 170 countries.
We offer the most complete end-to-end portfolio in the market which spans servers, storage, networking, personal systems, imaging and printing, software, services, and solutions. We bring the advantages of that scale, the breadth and depth of our portfolio, to solve our customers’ most challenging problems.
Transition: We also have a strong culture; a culture for caring about others and our environment, a culture for innovation and first and foremost, a culture of collaboration with our customers and partners. You have always been at the heart of this company. And that’s truer today than ever before...
