1. TRIC Training Log: 08-17-04 Demo Team: Beyond Plumbing, Oakland, CA Job: Two homes opposite each other connecting to main (one hole in street at main, lateral connections 2 feet apart) Pull: (2) downhill / 40’ each / 4” SDR17 replacing 4” VCP
2. We at TRIC Tools have specific requirements for the use and maintenance of our equipment with regard to safety and efficiency on the job. Our written and verbal recommendations coincide with safety regulations set by local, state, and national government agencies. Our clients may have standards over and above industry regulations. However, the safety equipment, apparel, and operating procedures demonstrated by our clients in this presentation may or may not comply with above mentioned government regulations.
3. The project: One contract, two homes in Castro Valley. Homes face each other across street, and each is replacing entire lateral from building foundation to main in street.
4. Pulling hole: Note two connection points to sewer main; upstream (left) connection serves home on west side of street, and downstream connection (right) serves east side home.
5. Fusing operation: Jig used to join pieces of 4” HDPE pipe on sidewalk.
6. East side entry: Preparing to feed pipe into hole at property line.
7. Pulling hole: Preparing ram to pull from east side home’s property line to main.
9. Monitoring entry: After a good beginning, pipe often needs little attention, save monitoring for traffic obstruction or protecting property and landscaping.
10. One hole, two pulls: Disconnecting ram assembly after east side pull.
11. “ Bumping”: After hydraulic equipment is removed from the pulling hole, pipe is driven further towards final connection.
12. Final approach: Watching the pipe being driven further towards main.
13. Back at the pulling hole: Finishing the east side main connection. Note pulley and resistance plate set up to pull the west side lateral.
14. West entry hole: Shallow and close to foundation. Cable inserted here and fed through old line to street (pulling) hole.
15. West side property line: City requires cleanout at this point. Old VCP (vitreous clay pipe) lateral has been exposed.
16. West side property line: Exposed pipe removed, showing pulling cable after being fed through line from house foundation entry hole.
17. Sewer sermon: TRIC associate explaining the virtues of trenchless technology.
18. Lateral #2: Setting up ram to pull west side home lateral.
19. Big Bend: HDPE pipe flexibility demonstrated at west home entry.
21. Initial guidance: The bursting head assembly “hinges” on the clevis (cable terminator) as pull begins.
22. Entry: TRIC’s patented head assembly and flexible HDPE pipe make this type of seemingly impossible approach routine.
23. The great arc: Bursting head has traveled down the old line a few feet, and new HDPE line has formed the “U-turn” which worker will assist for the duration.
24. Close to home: Extreme bend is guided and maintained throughout pull.
