expertise for initial and in-service teacher education, continuing
professional development, research and development, and services.
As a member of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and
Arts (ZFH) it cooperates closely with several other higher education
institutions in Zurich.

The PHZH facilities are located at various sites in the city centre of
Zurich and can be conveniently reached by public transport.
Initial Teacher Education
The PHZH prepares students to become teachers in kindergartens,
primary and secondary schools. The ZHSF, a joint institute of the
PHZH, the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology (ETH) Zurich, offers study programmes for teachers
at the secondary II level (post-compulsory school level including
general and vocational education). The city of Zurich
Postgraduate Studies and Continuing Professional Development
The PHZH offers a wide range of postgraduate studies such as
courses, seminars, certificate programmes and masters of ad-
vanced studies for approx. 5000 participants per year. About
12 000 participants are engaged in professional and organisational
development activities for teachers, schools and communities.
Research and Development
As a centre of excellence for education the PHZH engages in
numerous research projects at national and international levels. It
develops and evaluates new approaches to learning and teaching
and encourages the dialogue between scientific theory, research,
and educational practice.
