1. Moolavar Abhishekam
The name „Moolavar‟ is a Sanskrit word that refers to the main idol of the temple. In most of the temples,
there is a moola(main) idol and other idols are referred as “Utsavmurthi”. The idols that are considered
during various festivals are known as “Utsav Murthis”
What is Moolavar Abhisekam?
Abhishekam refers to pouring of water. It is performed by the priests of the temple while chanting vedic
mantras. The elaborated abhishekham also comprises of Cow milk, curd, honey, sugar cane juice, Lime
juice, Tender coconut water, Sandalwood paste, Turmeric powder paste, etc. After offering the elaborated
abhishekham to the main idol of Shree Balaji, fresh river water is poured on the idol to clean it. Water and
other divine substances used for abhishekam are not directly poured over the idol(s), a special divine
vessel is used that is specifically meant for the purpose of abhishekam.
Every drop of water and other substances that comes out after pouring on idols is considered as very
divine and devotees must consume the same with pleasure, it gives positive energy and devotees feel
spiritual bliss from within.
After consuming the divine liquid, many devotees have experienced its supernatural powers. There are
many examples where devotees got cured from serious ailments. This is because the Moolavaar idol
radiates positive energy around it and the substances used for abhishekam becomes supernatural after
being in-touch with the idol.
Abhishekam has the power to attract cosmic energy, which would be beneficial for the devotees attending
the abhishekam ceremony, as the offerings are gently poured over the idol(s) and it results in the radiation
of divine blessings and provides protection from the evil. It purifies the soul of a person from within and
results in the spiritual upliftment of the devotees. Also, the ceremony purifies the surrounding atmosphere
and it contributes to the health and wealth of an individual in particular and public in general.
