Acts 4:1-14 ESV
Peter and John Before the Council
1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the
temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 greatly annoyed because they
were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the
dead. 3 And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it
was already evening. 4 But many of those who had heard the word believed,
and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
5 On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in
Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander,
and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7 And when they had set them in the
midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then
Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if
we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled
man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you
and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
Whom you crucified, Whom God raised from the dead—by Him this man is
standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the
builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one
else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we
must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they
were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized
that they had been with Jesus. 14 But seeing the man who was healed standing
beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition.

Peter and John Before the Council

In the Gospels, the Pharisees were the primary opponents of Jesus.
Radical fundamentalists, they claimed Jesus and His disciples violated their
rituals and traditions (about which the Sadducees could not have cared less).

Here in Acts, however, the Sadducees are the primary opponents of the church.
http://www.bible-history.com/JewishLiterature/pharisees.jpg
Materialists through and through, they were upset with the church because of
the stories of miracles and resurrections, angels and healings that circulated
throughout Jerusalem.
The Sadducees taught: “Just be a good person, live by the Golden Rule, be nice
to people.”

Acts 4:4 ESV
4 But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the
men came to about five thousand.
Peter put the Word in context for them and they believed so hearing the Word
led to believing more so than seeing the miracle of the healing of the man that
had been lame from birth.
The Word is quick and powerful! (Hebrews 4:12)

Hebrews 4:12-13 MSG
12-13 God means what He says. What He says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as
a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense,
laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s
Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.
There is a true story of a missionary in inland China in the 1930’s who was sharing
the Word as he distributed printed copies of the Gospel of Matthew.
http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=OIP.M9df00d64a775b2e979840fe383a56fcdo0&w=264&h=176&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0&r=

One skeptical Chinese man named Den Lo was furious with this missionary for
giving out portions of the Bible so he took a copy of the Gospel of Matthew and
threw it in the fireplace in his front room.
The next day, as he was cleaning out the ashes in his fireplace, he came across
the only unburned fragment of Matthew (chapter 28:20) which read, “Lo, I am
with you always”.
God’s Word is so powerful that Den Lo was saved just from that fragment.
God’s Word will get them.
It will get your neighbors and coworkers. It will get your lost family members. It
will get those that you do business with and it will get those whom God brings
across your path every day.
Share the Word with the guys and gals at work, the kids at home, your neighbors
who are unbelievers, your mother-in-law and your grandfather (as our Pastor
did).
Share the Word—it's powerful!
Acts 4:5-7 ESV

and all who were of the high-priestly family.

Old Testament Scriptures declared that he who did a miracle in the name of any
other besides Jehovah was to be stoned (Deut 13:1-5).

Here, Caiaphas, Annas, and the big boys—perhaps with rocks in hand—were
hoping Peter would say, “We did it in the Name of Jesus.”

Acts 4:8 ESV
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and
elders,
http://www.pentecostalchurchbrisbane.com/assets/images/Acts-1-4-5.jpg
Just two months earlier, this same group was questioning Jesus in Caiaphas’
house while this same Peter was outside warming himself by a charcoal fire
when a little slave girl said to him, “You are one of them”.
John 18:17-18 ESV
17 The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man's
disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” 18 Now the servants and officers had
made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and
warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.
John 18:26-27 ESV
26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter
had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” 27 Peter again
denied it, and at once a rooster crowed.
John 21:9-10 ESV
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out
on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just
caught.”
John 21:15 ESV
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of
John, do you love Me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know
that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
So only two months previously, Peter stood by a fire and denied Jesus Christ in
front of a little slave girl (Luke 22:55-57).
But now, this same Peter, having been touched by a tongue of fire in Acts 2, is a
different person.
Peter is now face to face with the big boys saying, “You guys killed Jesus”.
By a fire Peter collapsed but now after being touched by a fire, he finds himself
in a fire.
When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, when you are on fire for the Lord, you are
going to feel the heat.
When you are on fire you are soon going to end up in a fire.
When the Lord comes upon you, Satan will launch an attack against you and the
fiery darts of Hell (Ephesians 6:16) will be shot at you.
Be certain and don’t think it strange when the Holy Spirit comes upon you that
you will soon be in a fire.
In fact, that is when your boss may come to you and say, “You’re fired!”.
You have been marked by Satan as a man or as a woman who must be
stopped.
Get concerned if things are too quiet in your life.
Satan may have taken you off of his list because you are no longer a threat to
his kingdom.
You are either building God’s kingdom, your kingdom or Satan’s kingdom.
After Jesus was baptized in water and with the Spirit,

Don’t be surprised when you have had a close encounter with God that you
soon experience a close encounter with the enemy – my boyfriend just dumped
me, my boss just fired me, my child is furious at me…
By the enemy’s fire, Peter was burned.
• Touched by fire – he’s hot!
• In the fire – he’s cooking!
• Under fire – he stands.

Acts 4:9-10 ESV
9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled
man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you
and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by Him this man is
standing before you well.
Acts 4:9-10 ESV
Look at Peter's boldness!
He's saying, "We did this in the Name of Jesus Christ, whom you crucified."
That’s a burn!
Acts 4:11 ESV
11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has
become the cornerstone.
http://mydailydevotion.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/cornerstone.42185651_std.jpg
Quoting Psalm 118:22, Peter referenced the construction of the Temple, he was
putting it into context for them.
He would later write that we as living stones are part of a spiritual house
(1 Peter 2:6-8).
1 Peter 2:4-8 ESV
4 As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God
chosen and precious,
http://whoiaminjesus.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/72-living-stone.jpg?w=940
5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a
holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ.
https://twcdaily.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/living-stones.jpg
6 For it stands in Scripture (Ps 118):
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.”
7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,
“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”
8 and
“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
1 Peter 2:4-8 ESV
The first Temple was built in Solomon’s day and the huge 40’ X 70’ stones were
quarried away from the construction site.
http://www.illustrationartgallery.com/acatalog/MillarWattTempleLL.jpg
1 Kings 6:1b-2 ESV
1b in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, he began to build the house of
the Lord. 2 The house that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long,
twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high.
When these stones arrived, they fit together perfectly so that neither hammer nor
axe nor any tool of iron was heard at the Temple Mount location.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nqm-3CAUgGM/UYuplcSCBuI/AAAAAAAAtgI/pYF0TF_rBh8/s1600/Israel_01.jpg
1 Kings 6:7 ESV
7 When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that
neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was
being built.
The cutting was done down in the quarry.
As living stones, we are being cut down in the quarry (Earth) so that we will fit
together perfectly as a holy Temple in Heaven where no sound of a hammer will
be heard!
This life on Earth, down in the quarry is the pits!
This is where the blasting and the cutting and the chipping and the chiseling
goes on so when we get to Heaven we will fit together so that not need one
stroke of a hammer will be needed.
No more painful acts!
See Revelation 21:4
http://gospelmusicroundup.org/wp-content/2012/08/Get-Ready-For-Glory-Revelation-21-4.png
Revelation 21:4 ESV
4 He (God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no
more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the
former things have passed away.
This is the rock quarry and if you miss this concept, you will be bummed all the
time.
When something bad happens you hear people say, “Oh, that’s a bummer
man!”
We are living stones; we are being fit together.
Do we rub each other the wrong way?
Living stones do that you know.
Husbands/wives, bosses/employees, coworkers.
Ladies, that guy you married – you thought he was going to be such a Rock!
But you found out that he is such a blockhead!
You ask, “Why did I get stuck with this blockhead?”
Because God will use that blockhead to smooth the rough edges off of you so
that when you get to Heaven, you will fit perfectly!
We are diamonds in the rough.
Tradition has it that although the engineers at the Temple Mount searched and
searched, they couldn't find the cornerstone.
A message was sent to the quarry: "Where is the cornerstone?"
Word came back to the Mount: "We sent it to you months ago."
Then someone remembered: "Oh, maybe it was that stone we didn't know what
to do with. It didn't fit anywhere, so we rolled it down the hill into the Valley of
Gehenna."
That is the valley below the Temple Mount area in Jerusalem.
The Valley of Gehenna was the place of burning, the place of rubbish, the place
where babies were sacrificed in the days of Ahaz, the place of sorrow, weeping,
refuse and stench.
And the rejected stone was indeed found in the Valley of Gehenna so they
pulled that big stone back up the hill and sure enough, it fit perfectly!
Thus, Peter makes application, saying, "The Chief Cornerstone is Jesus Christ."
This One rejected by you, this One Who took the punishment of Hell for you is:
 the Rock of Deuteronomy 32:4,
 the Cornerstone of Psalm 118:22,
 the Smiting Stone of Daniel 2:35,
 the Rock of our Salvation of Ps 95:1.
Psalm 95:1 ESV
1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation!

Daniel 2:35 ESV
35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were
broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and
the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the
stone (the Smiting Stone) that struck the image became a great mountain and
filled the whole Earth.
J. Vernon McGee says that Psalm 118 is the hymn Christ sang in the Upper Room
with His disciples the night before His death.
http://groupbiblestudy.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/jesus-last-supper-82803-gallery.jpg
Matthew 26:30 ESV
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Psalm 118:21-24 ESV
21 I thank You that You have answered Me
and have become My salvation.
22 The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord's doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:21-24 ESV
Psalm 118:24 MSG
24 This is the very day God acted—
let’s celebrate and be festive!
Now what day is the psalmist referring to here?
The day "which the Lord hath made," the day of salvation!
As we might say, we live in the day of jet travel, the age of jet travel.
That day, the day of (the age of) salvation, has already been over two thousand
years long, and "we will rejoice and be glad in it."
We rejoice in the day of salvation – past, present and future!
Psalm 118:21-22
Jesus quotes this passage in
Matthew 21:42 as a reference to Himself.
Matthew 21:42-44 MSG
42-44 Jesus said, “Right—and you can read it for yourselves in your Bibles:
The stone the masons threw out
is now the cornerstone.
This is God’s work; we rub our eyes,
we can hardly believe it!
“This is the way it is with you. God’s kingdom will be taken back from you and
handed over to a people who will live out a kingdom life. Whoever stumbles on
this Stone gets shattered; whoever the Stone falls on gets smashed.”
Matthew 21:42-44 MSG
Many folks don’t allow Jesus to fit into their lives but He fits perfectly into your life.
He has become your Foundation as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:9-17.
1 Corinthians 3:9-17 ESV
9 For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.
10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid
a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how
he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver,
precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one's work will become manifest, for
the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test
what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the
foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he
will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in
you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple
is holy, and you are that temple.
1 Corinthians 3:9-17 ESV
Acts 4:12-13 ESV
12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven
given among men by which we must be saved.”
http://susanstilwell.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Acts-4-12a.jpg
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they
were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized
that they had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:12-13 ESV
"Who are these unlearned and ignorant men?" asked the Jewish leaders.
"They didn't study with our scholars. They didn’t go to our seminaries. How is it
they understand the Scriptures?"
How could Peter and John, uneducated men, get away with saying, "We did this
in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth Whom you crucified" (see Acts 4:10)?
Because those who heard them perceived that they had been with Jesus.
When you spend time with Jesus you begin to take on the fragrance of the Lord.
Do you smell like Jesus?
When you spend time with Him you will speak with sensibility, with practicality
because the Lord is shining from you.
The Lord is with you right now.
You not only have been with Jesus, you are with Jesus right now and He is with
you.
https://sonshineofmylife.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/jesus-i-wil-stay-with-you5.jpg
Moses spent time with God (forty days up on the mountain) and his face shone
and he was not even aware of it (Exodus 34:29).
http://hookedonthebook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Moses-shining-face.jpg
Exodus 34:29 ESV
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the
testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know
that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.
The people said, “Whoa Mo, you glow!”
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_2Nzn1OvcR0/U49oNMWd09I/AAAAAAAAEjk/vmLp5pKW5U0/s1600/Israel+se+Prepara.jpg
Even though it was the Law he carried back from the mountain with him, the
people received it.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-
FnDVHuw3M78/UVMISaEH_MI/AAAAAAAAAzE/gCSLWa8zLJ8/s1600/Moses_10+Commandments.jpg
How do you get your kids to receive what you are saying even when you are
laying down the law?
https://drawception.com/pub/panels/2013/5-30/cTROre5ha4-2.png
You come with a glowing face!
Not a glowering face but with a glowing face and the only way to get a glowing
face is to spend time with the Lord.
When you come with a glowing face you can also come with the Ten
Commandments and whoever you speak into, they will receive it.
If you don’t come with a glowing face, it is just the Law and they will reject it, not
receive it and even resent it.
Don’t lay down the law without a glowing face.
Before you come down from your mount with the Law, your face had better be
glowing by spending time with God.
Then we as ignorant and unlearned men and women will be effective if we have
been with Jesus.

Acts 4:14 ESV
14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing
to say in opposition.
Peter and John were in hot water here and this guy that they had healed could
have said, “I’ve got to go!” and left them to stand alone.
http://bibleencyclopedia.com/gs400px/stdas0763.jpg
He well knew that he could be executed along with them.
You find who your true friends are when you are in hot water.
It is easy to be a friend when everyone is celebrating in the Temple but it is a
different thing when things get heavy.
This fellow, who had not been able to stand on his own two feet, now stood right
beside Peter and John as they stood in front of these powerful men.
How ready are you to stand with Jesus in the time of testing and trouble?
Or are you going to go along with the gang when the going gets tough?
I am the lame man in this story and everyone needs to know where I stand now
that I have been made whole.
We stand by the Lord.
We stand with the Lord.
We stand for the Lord.
Not just in church but out there where it gets hard and heavy and hot.
That helps us to evaluate our friendship with Jesus.
Do I stand with Him and by Him and for Him when there is a group of big guns all
around and they are not looking favorable on Jesus?
He stood (and stands) by me and for me.
Take as stand and stand by each other when they are blowing it (like John stood
with and by Peter after he denied Jesus three times).
Stand with and for your friends and family when they are in hot water, when they
are having difficulty.
That is true love!
May we allow the Lord to help us to have the maturity that this man had after 20
minutes, may we have that built into our lives even when we have walked with
the Lord for 20 years!
Acts 4:18-20 ESV
18 So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the
name of Jesus.

This is the verse that the Cubans were reminded of when we asked them to go
into their hospitals and share the Gospel with the patients there one Saturday
afternoon in 2003.
They chose to stand with Jesus and for Jesus and saw 240 weeping decisions for
Christ that glorious afternoon!

 Death in this life (the first death) is 100%.
 Even Jesus, the one who doesn’t deserve death, died in this life to pay the
penalty for our sins.
 The death referred to in Romans 6:23a is the second death explained in
Revelation 21:8.
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
8 “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral,
sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with
fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23b NKJV
23 but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Revelation 21:7 NKJV
7 “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be
My son.”
 Romans 10:9-10 explains to us how to be overcomers.
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that
God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one
believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.
Romans 10:13 NKJV
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. 14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. Acts 4:1-14 ESV

Acts 4:1 ESV Peter and John Before the Council 1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, In the Gospels, the Pharisees were the primary opponents of Jesus. Radical fundamentalists, they claimed Jesus and His disciples violated their rituals and traditions (about which the Sadducees could not have cared less). Pharisees http://carmelmount.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/pharisees.jpg http://i.ytimg.com/vi/O2s7a2ANZxk/maxresdefault.jpg Here in Acts, however, the Sadducees are the primary opponents of the church. http://www.bible-history.com/JewishLiterature/pharisees.jpg
  • 6. Materialists through and through, they were upset with the church because of the stories of miracles and resurrections, angels and healings that circulated throughout Jerusalem. • 7. Hebrews 4:12-13 MSG 12-13 God means what He says. What He says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what. There is a true story of a missionary in inland China in the 1930’s who was sharing the Word as he distributed printed copies of the Gospel of Matthew. http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=OIP.M9df00d64a775b2e979840fe383a56fcdo0&w=264&h=176&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0&r= 0 One skeptical Chinese man named Den Lo was furious with this missionary for giving out portions of the Bible so he took a copy of the Gospel of Matthew and threw it in the fireplace in his front room. The next day, as he was cleaning out the ashes in his fireplace, he came across the only unburned fragment of Matthew (chapter 28:20) which read, “Lo, I am with you always”. God’s Word is so powerful that Den Lo was saved just from that fragment. God’s Word will get them. It will get your neighbors and coworkers. It will get your lost family members. It will get those that you do business with and it will get those whom God brings across your path every day. Share the Word with the guys and gals at work, the kids at home, your neighbors who are unbelievers, your mother-in-law and your grandfather (as our Pastor did). Share the Word—it's powerful!

John 18:17-18 ESV 17 The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man's disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” 18 Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. John 18:26-27 ESV 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” 27 Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed. John 21:9-10 ESV 9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”
  • 10. John 21:15 ESV 15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” So only two months previously, Peter stood by a fire and denied Jesus Christ in front of a little slave girl (Luke 22:55-57). But now, this same Peter, having been touched by a tongue of fire in Acts 2, is a different person. Peter is now face to face with the big boys saying, “You guys killed Jesus”. By a fire Peter collapsed but now after being touched by a fire, he finds himself in a fire. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, when you are on fire for the Lord, you are going to feel the heat. When you are on fire you are soon going to end up in a fire. When the Lord comes upon you, Satan will launch an attack against you and the fiery darts of Hell (Ephesians 6:16) will be shot at you. Be certain and don’t think it strange when the Holy Spirit comes upon you that you will soon be in a fire. In fact, that is when your boss may come to you and say, “You’re fired!”. You have been marked by Satan as a man or as a woman who must be stopped. Get concerned if things are too quiet in your life. Satan may have taken you off of his list because you are no longer a threat to his kingdom. You are either building God’s kingdom, your kingdom or Satan’s kingdom.

  • 14. The first Temple was built in Solomon’s day and the huge 40’ X 70’ stones were quarried away from the construction site. http://www.illustrationartgallery.com/acatalog/MillarWattTempleLL.jpg 1 Kings 6:1b-2 ESV 1b in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, he began to build the house of the Lord. 2 The house that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. When these stones arrived, they fit together perfectly so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard at the Temple Mount location. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nqm-3CAUgGM/UYuplcSCBuI/AAAAAAAAtgI/pYF0TF_rBh8/s1600/Israel_01.jpg 1 Kings 6:7 ESV 7 When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built. The cutting was done down in the quarry. As living stones, we are being cut down in the quarry (Earth) so that we will fit together perfectly as a holy Temple in Heaven where no sound of a hammer will be heard!
  • 15. This life on Earth, down in the quarry is the pits! This is where the blasting and the cutting and the chipping and the chiseling goes on so when we get to Heaven we will fit together so that not need one stroke of a hammer will be needed. No more painful acts! See Revelation 21:4 http://gospelmusicroundup.org/wp-content/2012/08/Get-Ready-For-Glory-Revelation-21-4.png Revelation 21:4 ESV 4 He (God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. This is the rock quarry and if you miss this concept, you will be bummed all the time. When something bad happens you hear people say, “Oh, that’s a bummer man!” We are living stones; we are being fit together.
  • 16. Because God will use that blockhead to smooth the rough edges off of you so that when you get to Heaven, you will fit perfectly! We are diamonds in the rough. Tradition has it that although the engineers at the Temple Mount searched and searched, they couldn't find the cornerstone. A message was sent to the quarry: "Where is the cornerstone?" Word came back to the Mount: "We sent it to you months ago." Then someone remembered: "Oh, maybe it was that stone we didn't know what to do with. It didn't fit anywhere, so we rolled it down the hill into the Valley of Gehenna." That is the valley below the Temple Mount area in Jerusalem. The Valley of Gehenna was the place of burning, the place of rubbish, the place where babies were sacrificed in the days of Ahaz, the place of sorrow, weeping, refuse and stench. And the rejected stone was indeed found in the Valley of Gehenna so they pulled that big stone back up the hill and sure enough, it fit perfectly! Thus, Peter makes application, saying, "The Chief Cornerstone is Jesus Christ." This One rejected by you, this One Who took the punishment of Hell for you is:  the Rock of Deuteronomy 32:4,  the Cornerstone of Psalm 118:22,  the Smiting Stone of Daniel 2:35,  the Rock of our Salvation of Ps 95:1. Psalm 95:1 ESV 1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! http://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.M66f81247be84df16d9b0d27cf1a2bc55o0&pid=15.1

But the stone (the Smiting Stone) that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole Earth. J. Vernon McGee says that Psalm 118 is the hymn Christ sang in the Upper Room with His disciples the night before His death. http://groupbiblestudy.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/jesus-last-supper-82803-gallery.jpg Matthew 26:30 ESV 30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Psalm 118:21-24 ESV 21 I thank You that You have answered Me and have become My salvation. 22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:21-24 ESV Psalm 118:24 MSG 24 This is the very day God acted— let’s celebrate and be festive! Now what day is the psalmist referring to here? The day "which the Lord hath made," the day of salvation! As we might say, we live in the day of jet travel, the age of jet travel.
  • 18. That day, the day of (the age of) salvation, has already been over two thousand years long, and "we will rejoice and be glad in it." We rejoice in the day of salvation – past, present and future! Psalm 118:21-22 Jesus quotes this passage in Matthew 21:42 as a reference to Himself. Matthew 21:42-44 MSG 42-44 Jesus said, “Right—and you can read it for yourselves in your Bibles: The stone the masons threw out is now the cornerstone. This is God’s work; we rub our eyes, we can hardly believe it! “This is the way it is with you. God’s kingdom will be taken back from you and handed over to a people who will live out a kingdom life. Whoever stumbles on this Stone gets shattered; whoever the Stone falls on gets smashed.” Matthew 21:42-44 MSG Many folks don’t allow Jesus to fit into their lives but He fits perfectly into your life. He has become your Foundation as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:9-17. 1 Corinthians 3:9-17 ESV 9 For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building. 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:9-17 ESV

And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:12-13 ESV "Who are these unlearned and ignorant men?" asked the Jewish leaders. "They didn't study with our scholars. They didn’t go to our seminaries. How is it they understand the Scriptures?" How could Peter and John, uneducated men, get away with saying, "We did this in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth Whom you crucified" (see Acts 4:10)? Because those who heard them perceived that they had been with Jesus. When you spend time with Jesus you begin to take on the fragrance of the Lord. Do you smell like Jesus? When you spend time with Him you will speak with sensibility, with practicality because the Lord is shining from you. The Lord is with you right now.

Not a glowering face but with a glowing face and the only way to get a glowing face is to spend time with the Lord. When you come with a glowing face you can also come with the Ten Commandments and whoever you speak into, they will receive it. If you don’t come with a glowing face, it is just the Law and they will reject it, not receive it and even resent it. Don’t lay down the law without a glowing face. Before you come down from your mount with the Law, your face had better be glowing by spending time with God.

You find who your true friends are when you are in hot water. It is easy to be a friend when everyone is celebrating in the Temple but it is a different thing when things get heavy. This fellow, who had not been able to stand on his own two feet, now stood right beside Peter and John as they stood in front of these powerful men. How ready are you to stand with Jesus in the time of testing and trouble? Or are you going to go along with the gang when the going gets tough?
  • 23. I am the lame man in this story and everyone needs to know where I stand now that I have been made whole. We stand by the Lord. We stand with the Lord. We stand for the Lord. Not just in church but out there where it gets hard and heavy and hot. That helps us to evaluate our friendship with Jesus. Do I stand with Him and by Him and for Him when there is a group of big guns all around and they are not looking favorable on Jesus? He stood (and stands) by me and for me. Take as stand and stand by each other when they are blowing it (like John stood with and by Peter after he denied Jesus three times). Stand with and for your friends and family when they are in hot water, when they are having difficulty. That is true love! May we allow the Lord to help us to have the maturity that this man had after 20 minutes, may we have that built into our lives even when we have walked with the Lord for 20 years!
