SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF FENI PAURASHAVA, BANGLADESH.pdf
Evaluation Question 3
1. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?
2. The main media institutions that might distribute our film are going to be from British studios. The media
institutions will be British because of various factors, such as being culturally specific. Being culturally
specific includes features such as ‘how the film looks’ and how comes across to the audience.
Our film represents a contrast between people, we have
shown this through parts being black and white and
others colour. This is backing up our contrast of two
storylines and characters.
We have other themes that feature an unexpected twist which will again appeal to the British media
institutions as our audience into films and therefore need twists for it to be different from all the others.
One more aspect that makes our film culturally specific is that our film in character driven which allows
the all the action to come from the characters. Having a British theme is again going to appeal to British
media institutions. Our storyline has targeted a student at university, which is including targeting our
audience of students and young adults.
Lastly, our locations would appeal to the British audience because we use a typical British sea-side which
allows the audience to relate to the places rather than the amazing American city. The location of our interior
filming is showing that it belongs to the British film industry as it is filmed in a small flat, not showing off a
skyscraper view which is showing off the British country not Americas finest.
3. British media institutions may produce our film is because of moral statements we portray about the
British culture. Our main moral statement we thought about was “there will always be a punishment
for a bad action”. We showed this statement through a computer hacker with someone doing their
job. This is linking to our police system for punishing someone for a crime, however we have put a
twist on it and had the punishment not come from the law.
There are some small British institutions that may produce our film such as Film4. Film4 may
produce our film because of the similar genre, this would mean they attract around the same target
audience we are trying to attract. This studio is very ‘current’ and shows the up and coming/popular
films which appeals to the younger audience.
Our film could also be distributed through the internet. Using the internet would increase our
chances of access to our target audience (teenagers and young adults). This would make our film a
lot more accessible to our audience as that generation our very computer orientated. We could
distribute our film on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to get into the right framework and audience.
4. Our film is doesn’t appeal to a mass audience which means that it wont need to have conventions that
appeal to the American audience which is again explaining why our film would appeal to British
institutions. The controversial subjects we used includes torture scenes which is very common in thriller
films and therefore could be off putting to a large majority of people.
Some themes, such as the story being based around a university student could be potentially ‘typical’
therefore mass audiences wouldn’t find it original. Some people may just be ‘bored’ of seeing bad things
happen to students or it could also bring a worried issue to close to home for some parents etc. and
therefore wont want to watch it.
Our low budget is appealing to the British media institutions because it is a well known challenge that
British films face, this would prove that our film should belong in the British film industry. This is showing
why our film wouldn’t appeal to a mass audience as the budget doesn’t allow the film to have all the
conventions people are looking for, it can only do some. Having a niche audience is again attracting a
small audience because it shows it belongs to a British film industry, which means it doesn’t need to
attract the American audience.
Hollywood would not be interested in our film because it doesn’t include American actors, typical
American locations and it doesn’t have a huge budget therefore special effects are limited.
