  • Does this look familiar ? It’s the organization we all know and have worked to redesign.
  • A VIDO constitutes a single organization and its supply chains wherein some autonomy and accountability are managed at the team level.
  • From vendor – purchaser supply chain to more collaborative VRNs in which members create shared economic value
    Make point that this is a complex visual because VRN’s are even more complex than VIDO’s
    Core members and peripheral members may be indiviudals BUT they are often representing an organization … so it’s the stakeholder concept on steroids 
    AND this is why we have created BIG design processes and methods, tools
  • In IBES, people and the entitiIes they represent come together to solve a wicked problem…..to add social value rather than economic value
    AND in the economy of an IBES each member needs to be able to “bring home value” in whatever way value is defined locally for them e.g. Cargill Grain (world hunger)

    And … with each layer of complexity there is less “glue” in the tradtional organizational sense

    What we are seeing is a changing role for both organization designers and organization leaders. We depicted our changing role in the previous slides and this is how we see leadership roles’ changing — from 2Cs to 6Cs
  • Unparalleled times of challenge and opportunity both for ourselves as designers and our clients:
    Our institutions are not living up to our expectations. In all key workplaces of society — schools, healthcare, commercial, industrial and political institutions — we are not collectively responding to the challenges of our times in ways people hope for and need. At the same time, we are surrounded by positive innovations in medicine, technology, economics and social enterprise.
    Work and workplaces always have and will continue to be important for developing people and for shaping the initiatives they take to address challenges in their respective arenas.
    While all of this is occurring, the very nature of the workplace and work itself are evolving — VICO and Evolution of Work images
    QUOTE: "The acceleration of breakdowns in our system, such as population growth, hunger, poverty, violence, environmental decay, toxic wastes, the greenhouse effect, and pollution of the seas and soils, are mutually interactive and lead to increased entropy and or disorder in the system.

    We can evolve toward the positive as quickly as we might devolve toward the negative because of the phenomenon of nonlinear exponential interactions. If the system could go either way, a slight intervention to assist the convergence of the positive can tip the scales of evolution in favor of the enhancement of life on earth"
