Polymeric surge arresters were introduced to electrical systems in late 1980’s. In the starting of this technology, the housing used for the arresters was made from EPDM rubber, but in the later years, the EPDM rubber was replaced by silicone rubber. The reason behind using it was that silicone is least affected by the environmental conditions such as pollution, rain and Ultra violet radiations.
