• 1. Emergencies
See Plan’s projects in action
Quick response: Just days after the Haiti earthquake, Plan volunteers unloaded 4,000 tents that were distributed to families.
• 2. Home away from home: Temporary shelter, like this tent in a Plan-supported relief camp in Pakistan, is a crucial part of Plan’s emergency response.
• 3. Tools for survival: Digging tools arrive in Haiti in a Plan aid shipment, also containing tents and survival kits.
• 4. Ensuring identity: Documents like birth certificates, ID cards, and passports often go missing in emergencies, so Plan helps individuals access services and regain their proof of identity.
• 5. Quick fix: Temporary structures, like this one in Jacmel, Haiti, can be constructed quickly to serve as schools and health clinics in disaster situations.
• 6. Water supply: This water pump was repaired by Plan after it was broken and contaminated by flooding in Pakistan.
• 7. A priority for children: Children in the Philippines received new school supplies after their school was destroyed in Typhoon Ketsana.
• 8. Win-win situation: Through Cash-for-Work programs, Plan hires local residents to work on the ground in emergency situations, like this team clearing rubble in Haiti.
• 9. Water works: Restoring access to clean water and sanitation is essential to preventing outbreaks of water-borne diseases, like cholera, in an emergency.
• 10. Avoiding disaster: Marie Josee displays her certificate of participation in a Plan Disaster Risk Reduction workshop, which has helped her raise awareness about disaster preparation in her community.
• 11. All the basics: This family kit is one example of the supplies that Plan provides in the event of an emergency.
• 12. Throne room: Haiti's recent cholera outbreak shows how important sanitation facilities, like these toilet blocks built by Plan, are in emergency response efforts.
• 13. Food aid: When disaster strikes, whether it is flood or famine, food distribution is an important aspect of Plan's work.
• 14. School must go on: Children attend school in a transitional structure built to ensure that their studies aren’t disrupted.
• 15. Healing and support: Plan provides psychosocial support for communities in emergency situations to heal from trauma.
