1. How Should I Pack For My First Surf Camp ? - The Medium-Short
Listing Of Things To Bring
What you bring and do not bring on your own surf camp trip southern of the edge (we're presuming
you're not going on a surf day at Canada, even though you could do so ) can actually make or break
your vacation.
Wrong sunscreen ? Uh-oh. I am lobster red and can't head outdoors anymore.
No extra swimsuits ? That can be an irritating, chafing affair.
This medium short list is one i've put together for surf trips to costa rica so that you'll be more
prepared and enjoy your trip more as long as you're there. See clearly. Pack it. Enjoy!
• Money in USD (there are no ATM's in Pavones. NO one accepts charge cards or traveler's checks)
• Airline seats ;)
• Valid passport along with at least a few months remaining before expiring
• Crocks, Gators, Tevas, reef ramblers or similar water shoes. MAKE SURE they're COMFY! you may
be tromping up the river in order to inner tube back down.
• Closed-toed hiking/tennis shoes that may get moist (or we provide rubber boots )
• Athletic socks (football socks for shin pads or aged school leg high tube socks) in order to wear our
rubber boots
• Small flashlight
• Light rainfall jacket (May-Dec)
• Umbrella (May-Dec)
• Beach towels (at least one)
• Yoga clothes (shorts are superior to pants here )
• 2 Bathing suits (a minimum of , 3 if at all possible ) so you always have a dried out one to put
on...People here live in their own suits simply because it's hot. If you have more suits, bring them.
• Sunscreen (+5% zinc or titanium dioxide, over 30SPF, "waterproof") for the body all of us
recommend HIC 2X sunblock , Alligator, hawaiian Blend sport with zinc , or los angeles Roche-
Posay Helioblock S Athelios 40 (not 60 SPF). For additional face block (for swimming/surfing) all of
us recommend Vertra, Shiseido sun protection Skin basis SPF 35 , HIC 2X sunblock, Zinka
Nosecoat, Headhunter Surf display , and uv Natural sport. Old sun screens can individual and burn
up your skin. We do not recommend Coppertone, Bullfrog, or most banana Boat items. While
purchasing sunscreens keep in mind that SPF seventy can be the identical to SPF 30 and is a real
marketing rip-off.
• Repellent (Up to 20 or thirty percent DEET should be fine--no need for the military, extra strength

• Watch and/or alarm clock
• Camera (keep this out on the actual San Jose to Golfito flight because it is as scenic as they come )
• Any extra electric batteries , chargers and memory cards for the camera (no need for converters)
• Any medications necessary for known medical conditions
