What’s with the Name
Really just picked it because it sounded different
If you really need to know it was RAD
So it happens that radix is Latin for root so you can think of RADiX as the root to start from

Goal
Get up and running with OODT in 5 commands
Leverage all the hard work already done and lessons learned
Build what we already build
80% solution

What’s it do?
Provides an OODT distribution of integrated components
Gives a source structure to build around
Defines a deployment structure
Removes the need to do all the maven fun
Packages your code and configuration

How?
Create a maven archetype based on what we have done a few times now
Provide a simple script to hide maven commands
That’s it
Okay we want to do more but really its not much more complex than that

Why?
Help get newcomers focused on the important parts instead of build
Shared experience across projects
Learn by example

When?
Will be available with OODT 0.4
OODT 0.4 should be out before ApacheCon 2011 (Nov 7-11)
Archetype is available now (work in progress)

prompt> wget http://www.apache.org/dist/oodt/radix-0.4.tgz
prompt> tar -xzvf radix-0.4.tgz
prompt> export PATH=${PATH}:<downloadPath>/radix
prompt> oodt-radix <dataSystemName> <packageName>
prompt> ./<dataSystemName>/deploy/bin/oodt_pcsstart
