Walter Elias Disney (1901-1966) was an American entrepreneur and animator who founded The Walt Disney Company. As a child he grew up on a farm in Missouri with his parents and siblings. Throughout his early life he struggled financially and tried different jobs before finding success in animation. Some of his early animated works like Oswald the Rabbit and Mickey Mouse brought him fame. His feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 was a major commercial success and helped establish the Walt Disney Studios as a leader in the animation industry. Disney demonstrated qualities of an entrepreneur through his drive, willingness to take risks and innovate, and commitment to exceeding customer expectations which ultimately led to his great success.

3. The Early Years
• Walter Elias Disney was born on
December 5, 1901 in a suburb of Chicago.
• Walt was the youngest of 5 children (Walt,
Roy, Ruth, Herb and Ray) .
• Walt was almost 7 when he was enrolled
in school
• Hard times hit the farm and the Disney
family.
• Sold the farm and 1910 moved to Kansas
City

4. • One summer night in 1912, Roy told Walt
he was leaving home .
• As the school year ended, Ray
encouraged Walt to apply for a job as a
News Butcher on the railroad.
• In 1917, Walt rejoined his family in
Chicago .
• Walt enrolled in special classes at
Chicago's Academy of Fine Arts.
• When Walt was 16 years old, Roy
returned home .

back when he was older, but he wanted to

• Walt joined the Red Cross.
