1. Corpus Caeleste, Sui Generis
Corpus Caeleste, Sui Generis; roughly translated this means ‘Heavenly
Body, of its Own Kind. This series is made up of acrylic paintings on canvas
and several images taken from my altered book, ‘Anatomy of Stress.’ The
work depicts a personal journey to uncover universal truths. Each stroke
whispers to a deeper consciousness, asking that this subconscious self be
liberated through the language of art. Each piece illustrates one small step
towards answering this call to wake up to the world, both in art and in life.
In the external form and internal organs there exists an essential energy,
which flows within every breath of life. Despite our physical differences,
this conglomeration of cells and organs is universal; we are forever tangled in
the greater web of life. We may never be alone, our thoughts, our creations,
may always belong to a much greater whole. In each of us lies a hidden
wholeness within the parts. Though we become weighed down by external
forces, though our sacred vessel may become worn or warped, we will never
be disconnected. This is an ongoing study of the force of beauty that
radiates from the heart of each being. This work illustrates a love and
curiosity for our humanness, a prayer of genuine gratitude for the mysterious
gifts of life.
My work is a practice towards letting go. Exhale; liberate the product, free
the self from fear and surrender to what may come to be. In opening my eyes
to the world I may release these restraints and see clearly through the fog.
What exists beyond the perceptions we have created? What may happen
outside of the routine we have built to protect ourselves? In this moment of
emancipation lies a greater truth, a thousand languages outside of what we
may have conditioned ourselves to know. Shoshin, the beginner’s mind:
slowly unraveling experience to uncover simplicity, honesty, playfulness and
love. A call to wake up, to live an authentic life.
