the second the
donkey, and the
youngest nothing but
the cat.

The marquis, making several low
bows, accepted the honor which his
majesty conferred upon him, and
forthwith, that very same day,
married the princess.

The cat became a great lord, and
never again ran after mice, except for
entertainment.

Moral:

There is great advantage in receiving
a large inheritance, but diligence and
ingenuity are worth more than
wealth acquired from others.

Riquet
There was a Queen who had a
very ugly son. On the day of his
birth there was a fairy who told
the Queen not to worry if her son
was so ugly, she had given him
abundance of wit, and the gift to
bestow on the person he most
loved as much wit as he pleased.
He was called Riquet but
everyone called him Riquet with
the tuft because of the tuft of
hair he had on his head.

                                    9
Riquet
Some years later another Queen from the
neighbourhood had two daughters. The first
one was beautiful, but the fairy told the
Queen she would be as much stupid as
pretty she was. The other daughter was ugly,
but the fairy said not to worry because she
would have a great portion of wit.

As they grew up, their perfections grew up
with them.

At first everybody wanted to be with the
beautiful sister, because she was pleasing to
look at, but afterwards everyone preferred
being with the ugly sister, yet full of wit,
because she was more entertaining.

                                                10
Riquet
The beautiful sister was conscious of
what happened and was sad. Once she
went to the woods to cry when she
found Riquet, and he couldn't
understand how such a beautiful
woman could be so sad. She told him
she was very stupid and he told her he
could change that, if she wished to
marry him, he would give her as much
wit as she needed. He gave her a year to
think for an answer. She didn't hesitate
and she answered yes. Then she
suddenly had the ability to think and
talk politely, and Riquet doubted
whether he had given her more wit
than he had himself.

                                           11
Riquet
When the princess went back
home, all the court was astonished,
except her sister, who now had no
advantage from her wit.

Now every man wanted to marry
the older, beautiful and full of wit
sister and she told her father the
King she would have to think about
it.

One day she went to the woods
where she had met Riquet and was
surprised when she saw her
wedding was being prepared.

                                       12
Riquet
She was surprised because she had completely
forgotten a year had already gone by. When she
saw Riquet she told him she wasn't sure if she
wanted to marry him because he didn't like his
appearance. Riquet told her she had been
given the gift of giving the person she loved
with all her heart a beautiful appearance. Then
she wished with all her heart for Riquet to be
the most lovable Prince in the world, and
immediately Riquet with the tuft appeared to
her the finest Prince upon Earth.

She decided she did want to marry him, and
her father the King approved her decisions,
and the next morning they got married.

                                                  13

The Moral.

What in this little Tale
we find,Is less a fable

we love appear rare
gifts of mind,And body

beauty, youth.

Themes: It is no affliction to have many children, if they all are
good looking, courteous, and strong, but if one is sickly or slow-
witted, he will be scorned, ridiculed, and despised. However, it is
often the little urchin who brings good fortune to the entire
family.

Summary: Little Thumb hears his parents discussing about
leaving their 7 children in the woods as the cant provide food for
them. The first time Little Thumbs leaves stones along the way to
get back home, but the second time they are unable to come back
as the bread has been eaten by the birds. He climbs to the top of a
tree and sees a house with lights in it so they decide to go there to
ask for help. When they arrive there a giant ogre opens the door,
and wants to eat them for dinner, but his wife protects them,
telling her husband that an evil witch let them go. The ogre then
puts his magic boots on (which have been stolen from the king)
and goes out to look for the witch. Little thumb then starts to turn
around the ogre in order to make him fall to the ground, when he
falls to the ground he puts the magic boots on and goes to the
castle to give them back to the king. The king as a sign of gratitude
frees the children and gives money to Little Thumb's parents so
they can feed the children.

SUMMARY: The fairy
This story is about a family with two sisters and a mother. The mother treats one of the sister really well and the other one in
an awful way. One day, the mother forces the unfortunate daughter to go to the spring and collect some water. She meets a
nice old woman ( a fairy) that asks her for some water. The girl accepts and gives her a glass of water. The old woman
confesses she is a fairy and she grants the desire of dropping diamonds every time she speaks. When she returns home, her
mother, showing impression starts to show interest towards the daughter and asks the second daughter to go to the same
place and meet the same old woman and give her water so she can also get the grant. The sister goes and, instead of meeting
and old woman she meets with a young princess looking woman (which comes out to be the same fairy. She asks her for
some water and the girl treats her in a really bad way by not giving her a bglass of water. The fairy, regarding the bad
manners this girl has grants her every time she talks, snakes and toads fall of her mouth. She returns tothe house and her
mother blames the good daughter. She escapes from the house and meets the king which, impressed by her beauty, marries
