14. A Green Note from Matt Brice
I completed my studies in Environmental Science majoring in
Biology and physical geography. I have always been focused
on the importance of Protecting the
a child.
Environment even as
Living in Sydney in Australia I always used a Cycle as my
means of transport. Not only is it the quickest and most
efficient way to get around, traveling on a cycle removes one
car from the street, cutting down on my own personal carbon
footprint & traveling green.
I come to India on my Cycle with a similar motivation,
reducing my carbon footprint and allowing me to travel green.
15. I have a strong desire to live my life plastic free. In Australia I
always bring my own bags shopping, buy food in bulk and even
make my own toothpaste to avoid the plastic packaging.
If you do the math I will be traveling in India for 7 months =
230 days x 3 (at least 3L water per day) = 630 plastic bottles
thrown away!!!
Solution - during my journey I will be using a carbon/glass
micro filter to first filter plain tap water, this will filter out
bacteria and protozoan's, I will then treat the water with a UV
sterilization pen to destroy viruses.
These two small steps will allow me to reduce my impact on the
environment whilst traveling in India. Helping to make my
journey a little greener.
