Right: Rough Plan Outlines for Facade Budget Analysis
Envelope Percentage of Total Budget
Total Budget 		 ~$ 40,000,000
Total Envelope cost 		 ~ $ 7,000,000
Envelope cost 17.5% of total budget
Ways to Improve Envelope Percentage of Total Budget
1. Use Structural Composite Cladding (ALPOLIC) in place of glazed
spandrels panels
$ 70 per SF to $ 15 per SF
$ 1,218840 - $ 261,180 = $ 957,660 Savings
(2.394% Savings)
Envelope would now be 15.106% of total budget
2. Replace glazed curtain wall with glazed aluminum store front
(possible in some places maybe)
If all glazed curtain wall was replaced with glazed aluminum storefront
$ 65 per SF to $ 35 per SF
$ 4,527,120 - $ 2,437,680 = $ 2,089,440 Savings
(5.22% Savings)
Envelope would now be 9.88% of total budget
(Includes cost savings from 1 and 2)

Design Information for Below Images:
On the ground floor there are two open air pass-thoughs using stair ramps to transition to the second
floor and the new Line Green Way winch extends from Railroad Park to Slos Furnace. Two compluviums
are used to bring light into the building with the pass-throughs to create a unique urban space.

Core Idea:
Propose Fabric Formed CMU and create a Fabric Formed
cladding system and a Fabric Formed stackable block system
which can be used as standalone systems or integrated
together.
Case Study:
Fabric Formed Concrete and Castleview Primary School | Edinburgh College of Art
Fabric Formed Concrete Wall: The wall project demonstrates two things, the range of textures and surfaces possible with fabric forming and more importantly the practical
application of fabric forming concrete in a proprietary cladding system. The wall was devised and developed by Remo Pedreschi and designed and manufactured by Keith
Milne.
Castleview Primary School: The University of Edinburgh Craigmillar community architecture project took place over three days in June 2009. This project brought together
final year architecture students with local school children in a self-built project. The children are from an area of Edinburgh that is undergoing a huge transformation as a
large area of sub-standard derelict housing is demolished and new housing, schools, parks, and infrastructure is being developed over a ten year period.

BEST Robotics Staging Area 2010
As a studio we had the honor and challenge of designing and building the arena environment around the robotics playing fields for the 2010 Souths BEST Robotics
Competition. The BEST Robotics Competition is the annual robotics final for middle school and high school students across the South East sponsored by the
Auburn University Engineering Department. The theme was “Six Sigma” and was reflected in the six 16 foot panel walls made of 30,000 soda bottles and 60,000
cans. Our design also incorporated a 30 foot geodesic sphere which competitors walked through to access the playing fields.

The Auburn Creed
I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn.
Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.
I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my
mind and my hands to work skillfully.
I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and
confidence of my fellow men.
I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean
sports that develop these qualities.
I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.
I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and
mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.
I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own
home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and
walking humbly with my God.”
And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and
love it.

Case Study: Fabric Formed Concrete and Castleview Primary School | Edinburgh College of Art Fabric Formed Concrete Wall: The wall project demonstrates two things, the range of textures and surfaces possible with fabric forming and more importantly the practical application of fabric forming concrete in a proprietary cladding system. The wall was devised and developed by Remo Pedreschi and designed and manufactured by Keith Milne. Castleview Primary School: The University of Edinburgh Craigmillar community architecture project took place over three days in June 2009. This project brought together final year architecture students with local school children in a self-built project. The children are from an area of Edinburgh that is undergoing a huge transformation as a large area of sub-standard derelict housing is demolished and new housing, schools, parks, and infrastructure is being developed over a ten year period. Auburn University Kirby Tucker 3231 Kirby Tucker Auburn University FYP (First Year Program / Foundation Unit) Group Work BEST Robotics Staging Area 2010 As a studio we had the honor and challenge of designing and building the arena environment around the robotics playing fields for the 2010 Souths BEST Robotics Competition. The BEST Robotics Competition is the annual robotics final for middle school and high school students across the South East sponsored by the Auburn University Engineering Department. The theme was “Six Sigma” and was reflected in the six 16 foot panel walls made of 30,000 soda bottles and 60,000 cans. Our design also incorporated a 30 foot geodesic sphere which competitors walked through to access the playing fields.

Therefore, I believe in work, hard work. I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully. I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men. I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities. I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all. I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all. I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.” And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it. -George Petrie (1945)
