Weight and Balance – WAB3
The Challenge
After TAP migration to Amadeus Common IT Platform and due to an ongoing technological
discontinuation process TAP needed to replace the previous Weight and Balance solution improving at
the same time the flight planning procedures and data. This substitution needed to be executed in a
seamless way, without service disruption as this is a critical process for the flight operations.
The solution
The WAB3 – Weight And Balance application is responsible for the
Estimated Zero Fuel Weight (EZFW), that is the estimation of aircraft
weight without fuel based on passengers, baggage, cargo and pantry
information, so that the fuel and flight plan can be calculated accurately.
This project was required after many of TAP’s core systems were migrated
to CITP, making it necessary to integrate information from multiple sources
and formats that previously existed in one single system. In the rewrite "DoItLean was our partner
process, the solution was further extended to allow better payload for the TAP Weight and
calculations on long haul flights and was architected for future application Balance project in 2011
