2. EXTRA-EU TRADE – KEY FINDINGS
France’s production and exports of wood sawn or chipped lengthwise remain the
strongest in the EU. In the period from 2007 to 2014, EU production of wood sawn or
chipped lengthwise showed mixed dynamics, falling from 632 million cubic meters in
2007 to 405 million cubic meters in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 3.0% over the
period under review. In value terms, EU production of wood sawn or chipped lengthwise
decreased to 2,584 million EUR in 2014, falling by 6.1% annually.
The countries with the largest production of wood sawn or chipped lengthwise in absolute
volumes were France (488 million USD), Germany (354 million USD), Italy (255 million
USD) and Romania (248 million USD).
Positive dynamics in the production of wood sawn or chipped lengthwise among the main
producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Romania (+2.2% per year),
while for the other three EU leaders (France, Germany and Italy) the paces of growth
were negative.
France dominated in EU production and trade of wood sawn or chipped lengthwise. In
2014, France exported 36% of its total wood sawn or chipped lengthwise output. Of this
amount, 16% was supplied to Belgium, where France’s wood sawn or chipped lengthwise
held a 9% share of total Belgium imports.
