I recently left my Windows-centric comfort zone a bit and took a journey into Linux-land to see how I could get an ASP .NET 5 application building on a Linux machine. This was a surprisingly tricky process, so I figured I would blog about what I did so that other people could get up and running easily.

Setting up TFS
First,we needtoset upTFS. I'll be usingsome serverandaccount namesthroughoutthe restof
this,so letme define them:
- IC-TFS-AT-01isour TFS apptier
- IC-TFS-BA-03LinisourLinux buildagent
- TFS-BUILD isour buildservice account
Now,onto the process:
o Install TFS2015. That shouldn'tbe a surprise.
o Linux doesn'tnativelysupportActive Directory,andTFSusesAD authenticationbydefault,so
we'll needtotake some stepstoensure thatour Linux machine canauthenticate againstourTFS
app tier.OnVSO,we coulduse access tokensoralternate credentials,butthose aren'toptions
inon-premise TFS.OnyourTFS 2015 Apptier,openIISand enable BasicAuthenticationonthe
/tfs/virtual directory.If you're notusingHTTPS,be aware thatBasic auth credentialsare
transmittedinplaintext.If yougothisroute,I stronglyrecommendusingHTTPS.

Basic authconfiguration
Configure anAgentPool.Iputmy Linux machine ina separate agentpool,althoughyoudon't
necessarilyhave todothatif youdon't want.To make a new agentpool,go to the Control Panel
inTFS webaccess at the serverlevel andclickonthe "AgentPool"tab.Make sure yourbuild
service accountisan AgentPool Service Account.
