2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Visited Khoradi, Khaperkheda super thermal power stations and
Ultratech Cement to study the disposal of Fly-Ash.
Coal being used is of “E” grade and the GCV of Coal is around 3500
Kcal/ Kg.
Thermal station capacity of Khaperkheda – 840 MW and Khoradi –
1100 MW.
Coal consumption of Khaperkheda – 14K MT and Khoradi – 18K MT
and both the thermal units generate totally around 11.6K MT/ day Fly-
Ash – Khoradi (6K MT) and Khaperkheda (5.6K MT).
Coal consumed is of 200 microns grounded through Coal Mill.
Khoradi station disposes complete Fly-Ash to Ash pond due to non
availability of mechanized disposal system.
Around 15-20% of remaining qty is being disposed to Cement Plants
due to very low un burnt carbon content (0.9 %) and size (above 3K
Blaine) from Khaperkheda station.
Possibility of disposal of Fly-Ash from our CPP to Cement units/ Exports
to Middle East exists provided our Fly-Ash meets the above criterion.
It can be explored only after ascertaining properties of Fly-Ash post-
CPP commissioning.
Customers for Khaperkheda Fly-Ash are Maratha Ambuja, Manik garh
Cements and Diamond Cements.
3. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Visited Fly-Ash brick manufacturer near Khaperkheda and there is
remote possibility of disposal given the distance involved.
Another meeting is being explored with Executive Director (Works) of
Ultratech Cement next week on possibility of disposal of Fly-Ash.
Also other opportunities are being explored with Manik garh Cements
and Maratha Ambuja Cements.
Nearby region is rich in Fly-Ash due to existence of Super Thermal
power stations of MSEB at Chandrapur, Khaperkheda and Khoradi.
Khaperkheda Fly-Ash which is being sold in the market is low in un
burnt Carbon (<1%) and white in Color.
Fly-Ash consumed by Cement plants in the region is of 1/5 of Fly-Ash
generated.
All the Cement plants in nearby region have their own CPP.
No takers for the Tender Notice issued in the national dailies for
disposal of Fly-Ash in the market.
It is not economical to transport Fly-Ash for more than 250 Kms for any
consumers.
Alternative applications of Fly-Ash are not a permanent solution since
it has a very limited and unorganized market size.
Alternatively for our CPP there is a need to develop a Fly-Ash site for
disposal on continuous basis.
