Humbling beginning his career with an education at the University of Lyon in Lyon, France, Farid Abboud graduated in 1974 with a B.A. in philosophy. He then continued his education at the University of St. Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon, completing a B.A. in political science in 1974 and an MA. in political science in 1975. His well-rounded education was completed at the University of California, Los Angeles — or UCLA — in Los Angeles, California, with a PhD in history in 1995.

1. During a long diplomatic career, Farid Abboud once served as the assistant director-general of the
Department of Political Affairs in the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and he has served
Lebanese embassies in Rome, Moscow and London. Of course, Ambassador Abboud is best known
for his long and distinguished career in diplomatic service for his home country of Lebanon, which
began with a position with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beirut starting in 1974. He eventually
became one of the longest- serving Lebanese ambassadors to the United States, holding that
positionfrom1999-2007. He has beenthe Lebanese AmbassadortoChinasince 2013 and he was his
country’s ambassador to Tunisia from 2007-2013.
FaridAbboud hasalso servedhiscountryin manyotherways, such as his time as Lebanon's General
Counsel in Los Angeles from 1990-1995. He has also been part of Lebanese delegations to many
international conferences, including U.N. General Assembly Sessions in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and
whenhe gave a speech at a meeting of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, in which he updates
attendees on the state of the Lebanese peace process.
