The EU’s Tourism Education & Training Offer – a mapping exercise and performance check" Final conference www.eutourismkills.eu Workshop 3 - Travel Agencies, Tour Operators, Transport Travel Professional Skillnet - Fionnuala Carter Industry stakeholder The Training Networks Programme (TNP) allows employers to play an active part in developing provision in response to their needs by forming ‘Skillnets’. The Travel Professionals Skillnet aims to support the provision of quality training to the Irish Travel Industry as a whole, and to key stakeholders in particular. It recognises the importance of innovation and cross-sectoral cooperation in the future development and strengthening of the Irish Travel Industry as a whole. The Travel Professionals Skillnet delivers tailored training and up-skilling that addresses relevant, identified industry needs, while promoting good practice and positive communication in all interactions inter businesses, clients and state and semi-state bodies. It is funded from the National Training Fund through the Department of Education and Skills. The Irish Travel Agents Association initiated this particular Skillnet, but it has since involved other industry associations, including tour operators, hotels and some transport bodies. The courses provided are mostly short, generally lasting only a few days, sometimes delivered in-house and particularly (though not exclusively) addressing needs for various forms of marketing, supervisory skills and IT training. Employers have a direct input into designing the course, which is nonetheless supported by public funds.
