5. TOXIC BEAUTY
S New research in 2008 discovered LEAD in lipstick and
MERCURY in mascara. Lead is a potent neurotoxin that is
found naturally in nature that can cause brain damage.
S Hair straightening treatments used to style and slick down
male and female tresses with protein plus FORMALDEHYDE
make the world of beauty sometimes ugly!
S When it comes to smelling fresh and clean, the average
consumer uses SYNTHETIC CHEMICAL perfumes, soaps, and
deodorants on a daily basis starting in our youth.
S A study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology found a
chemical called PARABENS in the tissue of breast cancer
tumors. Parabens are preservatives found in thousands of
cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical products, including some
deodorants and antiperspirants”
6. We Succumb to Persuasive

America is Seduced by Thin
Chemicals Have No Calories
S America is seduced by the advertisement of the slim
model or pop star, catering to our tastes and lifestyle,
S Drinking diet soda laced with preservatives and flavor
enhancers, and aspartame (a genetically altered sugar)
that converts to formaldehyde from the immediate
breakdown into METHANOL at body temperature.)
S Methanol can build up in organs such as the liver and
brain by binding to proteins, causing great damage.

8. The Dark Side of Breakfast
Sugar, Artificial Sweeteners and
Trans-Fats Breakfast Candies Kellogg is the largest breakfast cereal maker
S We eat toxic foods for breakfast and snacks and in
our fast foods and sodas. The worst culprit is
breakfast!
S “Over the years, Kellogg has marketed so many
foods that are so high in sugar . . . they should really
be called breakfast candies”
(CBSNews.com, 2009, n.p.), according to CSPI
executive director Michael Jacobson.
S It is now 2011 and Kellogg is in the news again with
new strategies to renege on their voluntary
compliance.

10. FIRST EXPOSURE
Advertisers Market to Children
and Develop Loyal Consumers
S Numerous studies have shown that foods
heavily marketed to preschool and grade school
children are predominantly high in sugar and
fat, which is the antithesis of healthful eating
recommendations for children.
S Experimental studies have consistently shown
that children exposed to food advertising prefer
and choose advertised food products more
frequently than those not exposed to such ads”.
(Story & French, 2004, n.p.).
11. Junk foods:
heavily marketed to children
“Froot Loops”
A fruit-less sugary cereal gussied up
with synthetic dyes, is one of a host of
junk foods marketed heavily to kids.

Science in the Public Interest, 2011).
12. Embracing toxins:
starts with the youth as consumer

occurs at 24 months. (Story &
French, 2004)
S The most requested first in-store

S breakfast cereal (47%)
S snacks and beverage (30%)
S toys (21%). advertising
S In 2004, a total of $7.5 billion was spent
on some form of targeted advertising to
kids. (Seiter & Gass, 2004)

15. Toxins:
are grown inside our foods
S TOXINS IMPLANTED INTO GM FOOD CROPS to kill pests are reaching the bloodstreams
of women and unborn babies, alarming research has revealed.
S A landmark study found 93 per cent of blood samples taken from pregnant women and
80 per cent from umbilical cords tested positive for traces of the chemicals.
S Millions of acres in North and South America are planted with GM corn containing the
toxins which is fed in vast quantities to farm livestock around the world - including Britain.
S However, it is now clear the toxins designed to kill crop pests are reaching humans and
babies in the womb - apparently through food.
S These include so-called Bt toxins, which are implanted using GM techniques into corn and
some other crops.
S Traces of Bt toxin were found in the blood of 93 per cent of the pregnant mothers - 28 out
of 30. It was also found in 80 per cent of the umbilical cords - 24 out of 30.

16. Are TOXINS Here to Stay?
Whether toxins are designed by nature or by
the chemist, we embrace them and endorse
them to our friends and families every day as
we are seduced, persuaded or manipulated
(unwittingly by slick advertisement without full
disclosure) into living a better, more attractive
and more convenient lifestyle.
