1. Arizona Dental Health: 8 Things Everyone Should Know
About Teeth Replacement, PART 1
This four-part article series presents eight really important facts and revelations about
tooth loss and the various dental technologies available for their replacement, from
dentures to dental implants.
Odds are, you will one day face the need to have one or more of your natural teeth
replaced, if it hasnโt already happened. Even though our teeth are made of the
incredibly hard substance known as dental enamel, they are still vulnerable to
accidental trauma and decay, especially if our oral hygiene habits leave much to be
desired!
The problem is, the general awareness of what happens when we do lose a natural
tooth is appallingly poor. In fact, many Arizona residents wonโt even see the
dentist when they notice oral problems developing and instead will choose to live
without the offending tooth. That should end right here!
With these 8 important facts about tooth loss, teeth replacement and the dental
technologies available in Arizona, no one needs to live a life without teeth any
longer.
Tooth Loss Fact # 1: The biggest cause of tooth loss is gum disease and 80% of
Arizona residents suffer from it!
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), a staggering majority of the
American population presents with some degree of gum infection, whether itโs
2. mild gingivitis or advanced periodontitis. What this means is that without
professional intervention and an improvement in oral hygiene, the majority of the
population faces the inevitability of losing their natural teeth!
This is a shocking statistic to consider, especially in a day and age when we are
supposed to understand the importance of good oral health and its impact upon our
daily lives, self-esteem and general health. And yet, the results of CDC studies
would seem to indicate otherwise.
โGum disease is the biggest reason we see patients losing natural teeth,โ explains
one dental implant surgeon in Arizona. โAnd itโs a shame that the majority of
patients come to us with gum problems. This needs to change and that change can
begin as simply as brushing your teeth more frequently and for longer and by
flossing every single day.โ
Tooth Loss Fact # 2: The vast majority of Arizona residents fail to floss daily and
neglecting to floss leaves 35% of your dentitionโs surfaces unclean.
When last did you floss your teeth? The average Arizona resident only flosses
occasionally (perhaps a few times a month, if that) and not every day as they are
supposed to. Hereโs the thing you may not have known about this lapse in oral
hygiene: youโre leaving 35% of your teethโs surfaces unclean if you donโt!
While the spaces between your teeth might seem locked tightly together, there is
more than enough legroom for hoards of oral bacteria and food debris to become
trapped there. When you donโt floss, you leave this mess in place to sit and fester,
which can cause cavities and tooth decay over time.
โFlossing every day is essential for good oral health, gum disease prevention and
clean breath,โ says the Arizona dental implant dentist. โYou wouldnโt shower
without washing under your arms, for example, so why would you clean your teeth
without flossing? The difference here is that neglecting to floss can ultimately lead
to some pretty nasty oral diseases.โ
