Social cohesion design
Wise owl award
winner
In 2014 a project was undertaken in
conjunction with Delft City council to
encourage greater social cohesion in
the suburb of Buitenhopf. this area has
a high rate of immigration and
unemployment with very little
communication between different
ethnic groups.
the final solution was to implement an
evening market which would sell food
and goods from the different countries
involved in the market. the market had
lights and a number of stalls placed
around the area.
The App connects the device to the phone
so you can see your challenges in greater
detail. It can also be used by parents to
see how well their child is progressing and
will give helpful advice to them so that they
can move together. The Acorn Go knows
your level and will only you to recieve
challenges for the level you are at

It has been proven that workouts that are sub-maximal
are better for you. Ideally a target of 60-70 percent of
the maximum heartbeat for their age is appropriate for
improving general fitness. This device helps you reach
that level in a fun and meaningful way.

The Acorn Go!
My final year project was on
tackling
childhood obesity through
exercise Parents constantly want
to take care of their
children and are worried that
there child is not getting enough
exercise, sitting around all day
on their phones and
laptops or sitting
in front of the tv. The parent
could
purchase this for their child not
as a fitness product but as a way
to get them to move more in a
good way while they can keep an
eye and
monitor their child who will mere-
ly see this device as a game that
they can improve their
score and earn acorns

This interface was developed for the
childrens smartwatch device to
encourage them to move more, as the
screen was less than two inches it was
important for the interface to be as
simple as possible and easily
understood by the child.
Bright colours and big buttons were
therefore a must.
The watch connected to a smartphone
via
bluetooth 4.0 and an app which al-
lowed for more information for parents
and allowed for children to update
challenges and there profiles

The idea of the Acorn
name came from what it
symbolises, The Acorn is the
seed of the mighty oak tree
so it symbolises strength
and growth, this shows the
potential that the child has.

I was asked to design a new
product which would
encourage students to
convert from laptops to
tablets in this age of
increasing
movement and travel it is
important for students to
remain productive in a
number of environments
therefore a new solution was
needed to increase the
levels of productivity in the
college setting as well as any
environment which they would
encounter

HEMA Project
Dutch company HEMA gave the chal-
lenge to
develop a new product based around
eating and food.
My product is called the Zest board, it is
a
multipurpose kitchen board and cen-
trepiece for a kitchen table the target
audience is the college student howev-
er it is useful for just about anyone who
finds they lack space in their kitchen/din-
ing room and cannot have big
centrepieces due to lack of space. The
Lemon inspired shape is fun and
colourful in any kitchen. The bright co-
lour adds to the otherwise boring col-
lege kitchen which for the most part is
filled with empty bottles, jars of sauces
and mountains of dirty dishes
Easier to prepare food the chopping
board has crenulations to measure out
sizes and to make it easier to chop even-
ly this also helps students with portion
control, which I have seen a clear need
for in my photographic
research as they would have large
meals for themselves only even though
they are living with other people and
could easily have
communal meals such as pizza or wraps.
My product can also be used as a cen-
trepiece on the dining table and
could hold anything from fruit to pots of
Bolognese which could be shared be-
tween the housemates
