2. Airplanes are heavens for germs and other
health dangers. John Balmes, professor of
environmental health sciences at the
university of California, Berkley, offers some
stay-healthy tips:
Plane Germs
3. 1. Keep clean A university of California, San
Francisco, study reports we’re at increased
risk of catching cold and flu viruses during
flights. So wash your hands often and wear a
protective mask that’s labelled “N95” (it
screens out 95 per cent of airborne particles)
for extra protection. A surgical mask is not
sufficient.
4. Mind the water Researchers found bacteria
such as E. coli- known to cause diarrhoea and
nausea- in the water from galleys and
bathroom sinks of one out of every seven
planes.
5. Clear your ears Changes in air pressure can
suck the eardrums inward, and that hurts. A
decongestant clears the nasal passage so
pressure doesn’t build up.
6. Get up If you sit for too long, blood pools in
the legs, may lead to potential fatal slots.
Wear loose-fitting clothes, and talk a walk
twice an hour.
Every hour…
