5. Yuzuki Yukari
The concept for Yukari is
"People who are related to
the VOCALOID connect the
sounds/moon to one
another," (VOCALOIDに縁の
ある人達が音(月)を結ぶ).
The English title is "She
unites you all with her voice."
She is loosely inspired by the
legend of the moon rabbit.

12. Sf-a2 Miki
Often shortened to just "SF-A2
miki", her codename of "miki"
comes from her provider's name
"Miki Furukawa". In Japanese,
'codename' or 'development code'
translates as 'kaihatsu koudo'. The
meaning of the "SF-A2" part of her
name has never been stated.

19. MEIKO
This is
official art
from the
box.
The illustration was done by Shogo
Washizu, often called わっしー
(Wasshi), a former member of
Crypton. Crypton placed this product
on the market with a box art that
depicted a female illustrated
character. This character had nothing
to do with the singer's image, but her
anime-based appearance appealed to
the mainstream audience and the
software sold well. Wat even stated
how different the intention of the CV
series and KAITO/MEIKO were during
the development of KAITO V3. This
even led to the direction of the
updates leading to a completely
different course of development
compared to the Appends of Hatsune
Miku, Kagamine Rin/Len, and
Megurine Luka.
26. Megurine Luka
Luka's original concept was that of a
bilingual VOCALOID and according to
Crypton Future Media, Luka was
originally going to be called "Hatsune
Miku", prior to the change of concept
plans for the Character Vocal series.
Her surname combines Meguri (巡,
circulate or around) and Ne (音,
sound), while the name Luka invokes
the Japanese homonyms "nagare" (
流, flow) and "ka" (歌, song) or "ka" (
香, scent), thus making: "songs to all
around the world as scent spreads."

33. Lily
Lily is one of the few
VOCALOIDs outside of those
made by Crypton Future
Media to have referenced the
most popular Internet Memes.
As part of her marketing, two
figurines were made, one of
them being her with a railway
sign that referenced "Ievan
Polkka" while the one was her
with a bee.

40. Kagamine Rin
The development of the Kagamines began when Crypton
formulated the concept of making a pair of female and male
voicebanks. The first idea was for two voices of a girl and
her mirror image of the opposite gender, just like twins.
Crypton had the intention to distribute them as twins, but
this was not adopted. After seeing many works that depict
their relationships differently, Crypton announced in a
magazine interview that those would meet their ideal.
However, Crypton's final announcement was that they were
neither siblings nor lovers.During Append production,
Wataru Sasaki (aka. Wat) described them as having one
soul between the two of them. Wat also described that the
Append boxart makes the pair seem like twins, due to the
fetal position they were in.

47. Kaai Yuki
She and Hiyama Kiyoteru
were released as "student"
and "teacher" VOCALOIDs.
The characters of her name,
"歌愛", mean "song" and
"love" respectively.

54. IA
"IA" is taken from her voice provider's
name, "Lia".
There are at least two ways to read her
sub-title of "- ARIA ON THE PLANETES -
":
● The words "Aria" and
"Planetes" are Latin and
Greek for "open space" and
"planet" respectively, giving
the translation of "Open
Space on the Planet".
● "Aria", is also the Italian
word for "air" and was used
as a term in opera for
expressive pieces, usually

61. Hatsune Miku
Crypton had the idea to release Miku as
"an android diva in the near-future world
where songs are lost."
Her very first concept was of a bilingual
Japanese and English vocal, but this
later became the concept of Megurine
Luka.
The name of the title and character for
the software was chosen by combining
Hatsu (初, first), Ne (音, sound), and
Miku (ミク, future), thus meaning "the
first sound from the future."

68. GUMI
GUMI was the second VOCALOID to be
released by the company Internet Co., Ltd
and had a more retro-futuristic approach
than Gackpo had.
The name Gumi is the voice provider
Megumi Nakajima's nickname from her
childhood.[1] The software name,
"Megpoid", was taken from the provider's
name "Megumi." The second half, the
"poid", is short for "like Vocaloid," the full
implied name of this product is a "Megumi-
like Vocaloid."

75. CUL
Originally, CUL was released without
background information. However,
the information was posted for her in
2013 when she was featured in a
special event.
CUL was first introduced as the
mascot for the show, VOCALO
Revolution.
The name "CUL" has double
meanings, short for "culture" and
"Culnoza", a collaborative group
organized by Hiroto-P.
