The Kouprey is a large, endangered forest-dwelling bovine found in Cambodia and Laos. It weighs 680-910 kg and has dark brown coloring with reddish calves. Kouprey live in herds of 20 in grasslands and forests near water. They are nocturnal herbivores eating grass, leaves, and herbs. Kouprey numbers declined due to hunting for meat, skins, skulls, and horns for decoration. Conservation efforts aim to protect remaining populations through awareness campaigns, donations, laws against hunting, and research.
